Landmark Cup 2011

Postby Darth Vader » Fri Feb 04, 2011 10:13 am

Time to start talking about this year's Central Zone footy showcase event. Adelaide Plains did very well at Kadina on June 12 but a little birdie tells me that the king pins in the NEFL and the NAFA will be keen to crush the Plainers this winter.

Just had a conversation with two BLG players and they both said they would like to see the Barossa put a couple of sides (A's and u-17s) into the Landmark Cup in 2012 but the League management dudes don't want to entertain the idea because it will interfere with the home and away series.

This series is really good IMO. Where is this year's event being held? I should know this but I don't...

Remember the BL&G playing YP at Kadina around 12 years ago. Ended up getting very ugly, BL&G winning by 35+ goal.
Ugly day for rep footy.

This year's Landmark Cup will be played on June 11 at a venue to be agreed on this Monday night at the delegates meeting.
Host associations over the last four years have been
2007 nefl at Snowtown
2008 apfl at Balaklava
2009 nafa at Jamestown
2010 ypfl at Kadina
So it is back to the NEFL this year

I don't think this is a reflection on the standards of the 2 leagues, although BL&G is clearly by far the better league, I think its more to do with the level of committment of YPFL to the concept of association footy. While I think the gap has widened in terms of standards between the 2 leagues I don't feel there would be a 35+ goal difference between a team made up of the best 21 players from each league, its more a reflection of the depth of quality players in my view. Just a thought.

Pilot who will decide where the carnival will be played Graeme Wandel or Kenny Noack or will it be a vote from the NEFL clubs.
I heard the other associations were keen to go back to Snowtown because it is centrally located and has good facilities but the Clare lobby group want it at the Clare sports ground.

The Landmark Cup venue was agreed to be Snowtown. Central Zone chief cook and bottle washer Graeme Wandel endorsed the decision.

here's an idea. All you posters on here who will be in Snowtown for the Landmark Cup on June 11 could perhaps agree to meet at a certain time at a pre-determined place and all buy each other a beer. Should be a swim through!
Anyway...you city folk will have no idea what this about so as Max Smart used to say "Sorry about that".

Would these leagues be welcoming if another league wanted to join in? I know a lot of players in the Riverland Football League are keen to get away from their association match with KNTFL due to the distances to travel. Players just don't want to commit. Be interested to hear if another league would be welcome as I think the RFL would look into it if so.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

The RFL would have to change their guernsey!

The current format doesnt need changing, Travelling would be an issue if RFL joined aswell anyway plus why make it a 5 team comp 4 is enough.
