jackpot jim wrote:Willunga take the Minor Premiership by % from Langhorne Creek as they overcame a 25 point half time deficit to win by 8 points at Willunga.
Creeks outplayed Willunga in the 1st half and their lead at half time should have been much greater than 25 points, having butchered several golden opportunities in the 2nd term. Willunga dominated the 2nd half as the Creeks battled to maintain their lead but scoring opportunities dried up as Willunga surged to a narrow lead and clung on and in doing so have no doubt assumed Premiership favoritism.
Creek will face Mt Compass in the Qualifying whilst McLaren will attempt to repeat their authoritative win over Strath today again next week in the Elimination Final.

Good summary of the game Jim.

Who’s willing to predict how the finals will play out?

Elimination Final: McLaren in a much closer match than last Saturday.
Qualifying Final: Langhorne Creek by 4-5 goals.
First Semi-Final: McLaren narrowly over Compass - they’ve got the job done twice against the Dogs this year.
Second Semi-Final: Willunga, freshened up and with players back.
Preliminary Final: Langhorne Creek over McLaren.
Grand Final: Willunga to get the job done in an extremely close GF.

Like Creek over the past few years, Willunga have really good top end talent and very strong depth down to their 21st player and right now, they’re playing better footy.

Brett Ellis goes back to Back in the Mail Medal winning easily again.
Great player, Great bloke who like most medalists would happily trade it for a Premiership medal. Wont be this year tho if there's any team that could come from the Elim Final to win it, it's a team like McLaren

The only thing i'm sure of in the Finals is that Strath and McLaren WONT be playing off in the GF.
Other than that i wont be tipping any game with any confidence.
Interesting Stat is Willunga have lost their last 5 Grand Final appearances whilst L Creek have won their last 5 Grand Finals they've competed in so the pressure will be on Willunga if they make the GF.
Creeks have won 4 of their last 5 flags from 2nd or 3rd spot so they're walking a well worn path to success.
Be interesting to see if Captain Perrey returns this week, being sidelined with injury since Round 13

Straight sets exit would be bloody nice to see.

Set 1 Mission Accomplished :D

Set 2 and straight sets a real possibility with McLaren having already knocking Compass off both times this season.

Todays 2nd Semi sees Willunga in the box seat to advance to their 16th A Grade Grand Final appearance in the last 24 years whilst Langhorne Creek will be seeking their 12th in the same period.

Tips

2nd Semi - Willunga 17 points

1st Semi - McLaren 8 points

Same final in Hills Div 1 today between Hahndorf and Uraidla was 6 goal thriller!

2.16 to 4.14 Hahndorf's way. Comical scoreline.

Showers earlier in the day but mainly fine for the A Grade
Just a very tightly contested, scrappy game in breezy conditions that wasn't conducive to free flowing , high scoring footy.

Has an entire competition (other than the GSFL execs) ever been so happy with a club going out in $traight $ets!!
Where’s Luv a Kick? He might be the first causality after that debacle of a season.
Rumour has it Rob Brokenshire is appealing today’s result and requesting an extra 200 points next season.

Not too many tears being shed across the Fleurieu tonight

Except maybe at 5210
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I think the Compa$$ faithful have had enough of the Great Southern Sports page taking digs at them all season. Bias comments, ect, ect. Mind you the guy running the page is deleted and in my opinion shouldn’t be throwing stones in glass houses...

Only thing I read which seemed factual not a dig by the page admin was that Compass have now won just 1 of their last 8 finals appearances since the 2017 premiership.

Was there something else I missed???

Been there 10 years and after 4 consecutive seasons of a dud game plan of bombing it in to 2 key forwards who kick 80 % of their goals that doesn't stand up in finals one would have thought it's the right move for them.
