New Book Release

The Stringers – A Family of Footballers

I would like to advise all readers of the release of a new South Australian country football book, 'The Stringers – A Family of Footballers'.

The author Leon Stringer is an active supporter of South Australian country football history, specialising in the football history of the Mundoora/Wokurna/Port Broughton district. Leon's pride in that region's record is only surpassed by his obvious pride in the football pedigree of the Stringer name.

Leon's book traces the football family tree of English immigrants Stephen and Elizabeth Stringer and the involvement of their five sons in the embryonic days of football in the Mundoora district. As time goes by the five sons and their descendants spread to all parts of the state where they make their mark on South Australian football and continue to do so to the present day.

Eleven Stringers have played nearly 1000 games of SANFL league football and another has played AFL. Over 170 Stringer family members have played for around 100 South Australian clubs and among their achievements have been the winning of 16 Mail Medals, playing in 76 premierships from 1908-2014 and 35 separate Stringer's have captained their club.

I recommend this book to all SA country footballer followers who will find this book a compelling account of one families involvement in our great game within this state. Everyone involved in football knows a Stringer, has played with and against them but will be fascinated to learn that they all originate from the same descendants.

'The Stringers – A Family of Footballers' is 178 pages and represents excellent value at $30 including postage. The book can be ordered from Leon by emailing him at or by writing to him at -: PO Box 543, Woodville SA 5011.

Visitors to Port Broughton (homeland of the Stringers) can purchase a copy at the Central Deli for just $20.00.
I'm reading a book about anti-gravity. I can't put it down.

Who runs the central deli these days? The last time I was that way it was Paul Lee.
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.
