Sadly it looks like we are going to see more and more mergers in years to come.....travel distance between leagues will also grow over the next 5-10 years imo.

B grade in the NEFL has been a bit of a sad affair this year. First half of the season was spent with most games being played with less than the 42 players. We even had a couple of 15 v 15 games with different numbers on the bench.

From an Adelaide Plains point of view reserves numbers have been good across the league this season, with both the A & B grade competitions being generally pretty even.
The issue is with junior grades- The southern clubs (Two Wells, Virginia, Angle Vale) are almost becoming suburbs and their U14 & U17 grades are full of top age players, making it hard for the likes of Hummocks, Hamley and United to compete due to having a variety of ages and low numbers. In saying that Hamley are third in the U14’s, although they only play 15 a side.
You can see a situation in the future where the southern clubs mentioned (and maybe Mallala) will head over to the BLG or even to the amateur league, with the likes of Balaklava and Hummocks heading north. The predicament would be where do Hamley and United go?

Hills Football League will be the next league to start going down this path. The difference between the div 1 sides and the div 2 sides is so massive and with so many div 2 sides struggling for numbers and overall competitiveness its only a matter of time.

Fair point on numbers. Don't think a grade in div 2 has been this even or competive or in many a year though.

Also helps when the board actually want the Div 2 clubs to wither on the vine
