It’s been said that several players are getting paid by a certain real estate agency in excess of the cap. These high profile recruits won’t be coming for a couple hundred buck a game either. Heard the other day from a former crows top up it could be getting looked into

I’m unsure if I’d be calling contracted players to another club as ins. That’s my mail anyway.

I hear this is on the money!!!

RULE CHANGES
*Hills Football League-Season 2019*

The following rule changes will be implemented in our league in season 2019. These have been ratified by the Hills Football League Board and the Umpiring Panel.
Kick-ins
- At kick-ins, a player will no longer need to kick to himself to play on from the goal square. They may run out of the square and then dispose of the ball legally.
- Following a behind, the man on the mark will be brought out to 10m from the top of the goal square, rather than the existing five metres.
- The match ball is to be used unless the officiating umpire instructs the player
to use the spare ball.
50m penalties
- The player with the ball:
- Must be allowed to advance the mark by 50m without the infringing player
delaying the game. (Another 50metre penalty will be awarded if a player is
impeded)
- Will be able to play on while the 50m penalty is being measured out.
If a player chooses to play on, the umpire will signal this and time keepers in A grade will need to recommence the game time.
Umpire contact
- Players will be prohibited from setting up behind the umpire at centre bounces.
- Put simply if a player makes any contact with an umpire a free kick will be awarded to the opposing team. If the contact is deemed deliberate a report will be filled.
Ruck contests: prior opportunity
Marks and free kicks in defence
- A ruckman who takes direct possession of the ball from a bounce, throw-up or boundary throw-in will no longer be regarded as having had prior opportunity.
- They will therefore be given reasonable time to dispose of the ball legally.
- When defenders mark or receive a free kick within nine metres of their own goal, the man on the mark will be brought in line with the top of the goal square.

Hills Football League-Season 2019. Marking contests
- The 'hands in the back’ rule interpretation has been repealed so a player can now:
- Place his hands on the back of his opponent to protect his position in a marking contest
- PROVIDED he does not push his opponent in the back.
- The use of hands and arms are not condoned by the umpires as the player in
front will be given protection if the action is deemed to impede his right to contest the mark.
Kicking for goal after the siren
- A player who has been awarded a mark or free kick once play has ended: Will now be able to kick across their body using a snap or check-side kick
- BUT must kick the ball directly in line with the man on the mark and the goal.

The HFL will NOT be enforcing the below rules

- Implementation of a traditional set up at centre bounces – Clubs must have six Players inside both 50-Metre arcs, with one Player required to be inside the Goal Square. Four Midfield Players are positioned inside the Centre Square with the Wingmen required to be placed somewhere along the Wing.
- Team Runners may only enter the Playing Surface once a goal has been kicked and must exit the Playing Surface before play Recommences.
- Water Carriers are not permitted to enter the Playing Surface during live play.

Whats everyone's thoughts on the new rules?

I personally like them, and dont see any of them being a detriment to the game.

My thoughts...
The reintroduction of prior opportunity for throw ins and field bounces I am not sure is a great thing. Ruckmen taking the ball out of the ruck could be used to lock down games that are close late in the game - not sure if that would be a positive for how games are played. I suppose that is only possible if the other ruckman allows it though...
I think the rest of the changes are good, and remove things like having to kick to yourself in order to play on - really that is a silly thing that has been part of the game for a fair while. Bringing in defenders marks for free kicks to 9 metres in makes common sense too.

So I take it that you can not get done for overstepping the line now on a kick out? edit so you have to be fully out of the square before you kick if you choose to play on?
You can just walk out of the square and handball also?

As I understand it, once you cross the goal square line, the umpire calls "play on" and you need to dispose legally by kick or handball. On a kick out from a point, the player standing the mark will be set 10 metres back, rather than the 5 metres previously. That would give the player playing on a bit more penetration with his kick in.

If so, they may need to read the cautionary tale of Kybybolite and the penalties that were handed down today.

With the season not far away what are everyone’s predictions?

Hahndorf
Blackwood
Uraidla
Mount Barker
Echunga

Lobethal
Mount Lofty
Onkaparinga Valley
Nairne

Mail Medal- Dylan Matsen
Goal Kicking- Darcy Hourigan.
Sadly think Hahndorf are going to be very hard to stop. Happy to be proved wrong
