Finals Weather???

Postby Shirtfront » Thu Aug 19, 2010 5:42 pm

With all but Div 1 playing finals this week, i ask.................Where is the finals weather????

You know, the warm feeling in the air, grass freshly cut, the ground hardening up for fast footy, training lightning quick and skills to match. Nothing better, so why then is it pissing down!!!!

as long as it doesn't get to the stage as it did in the early 00's when a grand final was [;ayed at payneham which had not a single blade of grass on it. final score 2.3 to 2.1 if i remember correctly
led to some interesting scores that day such 1.8 beating 2.1 in another division.

This is finals football, Hard tough games where the smallest mistake can cost your side dearly! Alot of body clashes and the blokes willing to put there head over the ball will be rewarded. Wether it be Rain, hail or Shine, any game in the minor round is always met with the same attitude, same mentality and the same passion! Any way, the rain suits Salisbury in every grade!

I remember that year. Our second final was at Cambelltown and the oval was literally underwater. Would of been close to a foot deep in some parts. Was good fun though, apart from the fact we lost!

Got it beat 2001 1.2 to 1.0 Hectorville Oval both points were rushed by the attacking team just trying to score. If I knew how to put in a photo I would.

I remember back around 2001 or 2002 I think we played some finals at Payneham and Hectorville that were atrocious. Not a blade of green on teh oval, mud half way up your shins and I remember we beat Ingle Farm 3 goals to 2 or something. I got a free kick about 15 metres out from goal and was worried I wouldn't make the distance !! Looks like it'll be like that again thsi year. Could handle some sun and dry decks to bring out the best football but what will be, will be !!
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

I think I remember that game, there was no grass at all just mud, thick slosh all over the ground. It would be good if you could put a photo up.

least there's some green - payneham didn't even have that edge of green around the boundary.
but i still love those conditions...

Ten year reunion next year won't be much to talk about though. Endless hours talking about Clemo's goal.

In 2001, we finished 5th in D3R and played the Elim Final at Norwood vs Walkies (won by a few points), 1st Semi at Prospect vs Salisbury West (won by a few points) and the Prelim Final against PAOC at Kenilworth (won by a few points also). The weather was shocking all 3 of those games, ovals were complete mudbaths. Pretty sure we had record rainfalls and flooding in Adelaide over those few weeks. I think we kicked about 6-7 goals in total over the 3 games.

Unfortunately GF day was sunny and 25 degrees at Edwardstown Oval, and we got smashed by SHOC by 10 goals !!! I suppose you could say we were 'heavy-track specialists'.

Those few weeks were the most memorable, and enjoyable of my whole footy career.
