Cant have captain and coaches on Grand Final days, as too much on their plate. If anyone has played or coached in one they will know you are either celebrating with your team mates, or cant be stuffed with something like that if you have lost. The side losing wont give a rats arse about the award either as all they care about is the Premiership they have lost. Also, the choice for a BOG has to be done before the end of the game so the umpires are out of the question and frankly not in a position to be picking such an award, as is evidenced by the Medal Counts each year. Many of the exec members I have seen at GF's over the years have often had a more than a few, and probably not a good choice either after being at the game being entertained, and might not know the players anyway.
Each club who is playing nominate 2 former PLAYERS of note. Note the word PLAYERS and not anyone else. The combined totals of the votes will get the best player on the ground. That is 4 cards with a 3,2 and 1 and then total them. The players of note will choose the best players and leave it out of the hands of anyone else who may not know what they are looking at.
No media, no journos, no administrators. Just nobody who has not played should be picking these awards of note as the AFL often have these types voting and they have NFI. Leave with former players and cant go wrong.

Why not? You have an opinion on everything else the League does.
Well, the Chairman of the Common Sense sub-committee has just spoken.
I will give him something to bitch about on Saturday.
It will be done by the umpires.
