anyone playing Elizabeth in future rounds is to rest their A grade and play a B grade side for the sake of an equal competition and an aggregate win is applied to the 3 teams that have already played them.

This provides a good rest week for the A graders and still gives the lower grade guys an opportunity to have a kick and a catch

I thought similar earlier - work out a general average margin, apply it to all games they play but keep the score / goal kickers.

So for instance make yesterday say a 300pt but retain the “82.24.516” and goal kickers.

Then at least if a side kicks 60, 70, 80, 500 goals against them, it won’t matter as much.. and on the flip side there is then no added incentive for sides to really hammer them (past the agreed winning margin).

Dangerous territory, that’s being reactive. Get back to the root of the problem. Player transfers are out of control. Limit the amount of transfers anyone can have over a 4 or 5 year period - Similar to demerit points on your licence. 3 signings every 5 years permitted. If you want to sign at 2-3 different clubs in the preseason then that’s 2-3 strikes to your name in that 5 year period.

Sounds good but wouldn’t have helped Elizabeth in this situation, it’s not as if Elizabeth had a bunch of blokes previously who had hopped from club to club. It’s the first time a lot of the past players have gone on to play senior footy elsewhere

How Fitzroy got 80+ is still beyond belief. Quarters are 20min (plus time on).. must’ve been some fast clearance + goal work.

Maybe Fitzroy supplied their time keeper. Same bloke who let an A grade game run longer to ensure a draw last season.

AdFL have let everyone down here, if they were placed in a C grade competition it would have benefited everyone and these discussions wouldn't be happening, letting clubs die on the vine can't be the solution.

Absolute waft.. how about placing some ownership and responsibility on the club in this position.

Elizabeth let themselves down by not being open and seeking assistance /support etc when every man and his dog knew they were up shit creek all summer.

Sounds like the majority are happy for them to close the doors. The league has a responsibility to assist them I would have thought.

Dartfish would also be happy, most games lucky to get 100 views, Fitzroy v Elizabeth nearly at a 1000 views

No one wants them to shut the doors, don't believe that's been suggested - but the league has a responsibility to all clubs not just Elizabeth - there are 9 other clubs in this div, and 6 other A grade divisions.

Gaza, Portland, Blackfriars all in similar position and before season were struggling, but they all are working through it and busting their backsides to remedy their issues as best they can.

So Dutchy - what would SFL, GSFL or HFL do if a club was in the Elizabeth situation?

And everyone keeps banging on about putting Elizabeth in a C grade comp but has anyone bothered to check the structures of the lower C grade divisions to see how hard that would have been. I would trust Bedge's info above others on here as to how late (if at all) that Elizabeth could have requested to play in a C grade comp. Once we got the final fixture then any changes after that would have created a BYE in C6 or C7 and would have displaced venues and game times for games at Elizabeth. Everyone becomes a genius with solutions without any lateral or logistical thinking as to how it could possibly work. Why should 7 to 9 other clubs be negatively impacted due to the self-imposed problems of a single club. The league has over 70 clubs to deal with (the most of any league in Australia) - give them a break. The league can't be held to account for the ridiculous player movements between many of those old CDFA clubs that has contributed to the current/recent Elizabeth and Smithfield situations.

Pretty sure this was the situation when Hackham were still in the SFL. They're now in the same spot that Elizabeth will find themselves in next year, in D7.

Just quietly, not sure they would've found it much easier if at all in the C grade divisions.

C6 for instance - Uni, Modbury, Lutheran, Salisbury, Para Hills - they would put massive scores on them as well - only difference is it is less likely to be published nation wide.

Above C6 the C grade sides just keep getting fitter, younger, better.

This did occur to me after I posted wenchy but a bit easier in the SFL with a Sunday C grade comp where the fixture is completely independent and has no links to what happens on a Saturday. Likewise the HFL C grade comp has accommodated a one club team such as Milang but that's a Friday night / Sunday comp. And those C grade comps are a case of the "more the merrier" to keep them viable and relevant.

And my memory of the Hackham situation is that they owned their issue early and went to the league and other clubs with a solution to keep some form of senior program in place.

And the other issue with Eliz playing in a C grade comp is that they would be playing at 10.15 or 12.15 so not sure how that would work for trade at home games and/or getting players and supporters back to the club etc. - particularly when playing away. Could this have contributed to any hesitation as to what they felt was best for 2024. Having 1 team in a C grade comp and going broke in the process could make it even harder to recover from.

What's your point lol?

Also fairly sure Rosewater and West Croydon confirmed a C grade before Rd 1, but because of the timing were made to miss the 1st round.. and we fortunate because two openings had become available with Brahma Lodge failing to field a C grade and pulling the pin few days earlier.

Rosenthal only 2 goals behind Knapp.. suddenly it's not "How quick will Knapp get to 100?" but "Who will get there first".

Rosenthal had 9 shots on goal against Ingle Farm in Rd 1, could've easily walked away with a bag.

It happened brilliantly with Hackham, let them bide their time in C grade when they only had 1 team, now they have 2 teams and are placed in a competition that suits them. Biggest things these clubs need is time, the leagues can assist them with this by placing them in the right division, then its up to the club administrators to use that time to turn the club around with strategic planning and execution. 99% of the responsibility is still back on the club itself to pick it self up and re-establish itself.

Bridgewater/Callington in the HFL have dropped to 1 C grade team this year after an unsuccessful one off merger last year with Ironbank. They've still got some junior grades too. Hopefully they can get back up & running with 2 teams in the future
