af, i think that is one of the most ridiculous comments in this forum, saying that no-one will beat Henley in Div1 and Div1 Reserves, give me a break. And to say that no-one has the depth in Div 1 to compete with Henley, except maybe Gaza?

Someone has to establish the mantle of being top dog in the competition, there is already someone there, that team is Goodwood Saints, last 3 premierships?! so they dont have the depth? get off your high horse about Henley being undefeated, etc.... and look at the facts.

SAAFL Budget is purely a speculation at this stage anyway Rupert and a long way from being a foregone conclusion, but all will be known in the next week or so. Dont intened to be a "favourite son", as you have put it, as I along with many others have long been sick of the spin doctoring from Tynte Street. This is purely going to be an Independent Voice, written not just by myself, but a myriad of other writers from throught all of the grades and all know there stuff about what Grade they are talking about.

A bit of competition, a bit of a private venture never hurt anyone I would have thought. To be a "favourite son", was never
an intention. To be bluntly honest, I dont want to work with them and fall under their spell and being told what to write and how to spin doctor and how to ensure bungles are never leaked to the public.

What you may get is a good read, or a better read than the current sanitised version.

My skin is far from thin - would not take the steps to actually identify who I am if I was worried about having a thin skin. Those who hide behind comments are more thin skinned than someone who actually identifies themselves I would have though, thus thinking you may do the same rather than hiding. Probably refreshing to have someone who identifies themselves and thoughts I would have thought.

Finn - no one dislikes Henley nor did they have a dislike of University. People should only have admiration of clubs such as University, Broadview, Goodwood, Kilburn, Greek, Riverside etc, etc, who stood the test of time. Certainly University being in A1 for 101 years in a magnificent achievement, Broadview since the late 70's and Goodwood with their mountain of successes since the mid 90's, only goes to show classy football sides and classy clubs who know how to run their clubs well. Think you may have a little axe to grind with Henley. I purely stated, that I think they have the strength throughout to win both the A1 and A1 Reserves titles and cant see anyone beating them - simple. No motives other than an opinion. I actuall said to Henley people 18 months ago that they were sitting on a Football Dynasty, which can be verified by them, so no motives mate, just think they will steamroll the competition.

Seems like you can be nice or rude and anything in between and still cop crap. Why bag University for being so great over so long - you have some inferiority complex at not being able to acknowledge a Great club or one possibly in the making.

Play On, what about that, you actually got away with making a somewhat negative comment about AF's post and he forgot to have a crack back, obviously only worried about comments from Finn & my Boy Rupert.

That's what I call 'thin skinned' & selective 'cause he didn't respond to my query about involvement with CA either. We all know he was a good cricket coach!

Agreed. Has there been a club in the modern-era that has even come close to going thru the season undefeated in both A & B grade?

A1 is a very tough end even competition and to suggest that one club could go thru the season undefeated in A & B grade is absurd.

Making that call whether its there opinion only is still a big call. How can you say anything like that with Goodwood there. proven performers in A1 over the years.

af - i'd never bag uni as i'm coaching there still - you may have missed the smiley emoticon after the the above quote. i also defended your viewpoint saying that it was an opinion piece and should be treated as such and not as gospel.

i also know that henley only won 5 games in 07 and that 11 games were needed to make the 5 meaning that there is a heap of improvement needed to just make the 5. that henley are trying to position themselves to be a powerhouse is not a problem and good luck to them in that endeavour; that every other club will try to stop them winning the flag is not in question as each club wants it for themselves. on the surface it appears that div 1 will be hard fought and close at either end of the table and thus perhaps a little better than the same few clubs fighting over the chocolates.

i also like the budget idea, having been involved in publishing newspapers and magazines before i know what a herculean task awaits.

Finn - Henley are a sleeping giant mate and have been for a few years. Will have a football dynasty in front of them similar to those other great clubs I mentioned before. Be under no illusions they have the resources, means and players.

I also understand your perspective that they only won 5 games last year, but this years side is not the same as last and half of those guys will be all playing in the Magoos. Hey, you all might be right and I might be horribly wrong, but I can see them being there late in September mate. Possibly others on here who have bagged my idea that they will go through undefeated may be correct and I may have been a bit premature in that opinion. For those who gave me a little bit of crap for saying that, you are correct - it is "nearly" impossible to go through undefeated and I am wrong.

Have been assistant coach in A1 for far too long to suggest that actually and was a pretty dumb comment, so I accept that point of view from those who gave me a bucketing. Point taken and you are correct and me obviously wrong.

Spent 2 seasons there as assistant coach a few years ago and you can tell that they are not far away. Look at last year from a far away planet, as they will not be the same side and certainly better coached. That side of their game "coaching", will improve that much it is not funny.

Made a stupid comment about going through undefeated, but still stick by my choice as them winning the Flag. Just not the same side as was running around in 07 mate. Saw the "Rhino", Ryan Demunk pounding the streets the other evening and looking trim. Great player and underestimated and tough as old boots. Would not want to be a half forward flanker having to stand him. Look at the pick ups like Inkster and Duncan and others. Duncan a pure class act, as is the Captain in Luke Pastyn, so look for a good on ball division as well with lots of rotations - all with quality players going through there.
