Well if they play over 200 games in a strong Hawthorn side they're likely to be a superstar, and most ex SA players (presuming its an ex SA player) who've played at Hawthorn have been champions. Anyway, we're not supposed to discuss posters ID's so i'll leave it at that ;)

Modbury Hawks i think???
I am now convinced the league side will beat an amature side, but the jury is still out on the reserves.

Fair call on reserves. Most Magoos side are made up from 19s or players coming back from injury.

reserves are reserves and league is the best 21 in most instances. i dont think any league side would loose to an amateur side. but reserves would be different..these days a lot of the reserves sides are full of 19 yo where the good saafl sides are full of good 20 to 30 yo.. if you look at most of the reserves sides these days, there wouldnt be many over 20. tim wetherald fr sturt would be a great example where he quit sturt in lieu of having to prove himself as a 30 yo to regain his spot.(quit sturt thurs after being named in the twos and not guarr a spot in the 1 s) there are some exeptions injury etc but if your playing ressies at 25 + well you prob wont make it

I reckon the a sanfl b grade team would beat an a1 side by 10 goals, they would just run over the top of them due to superior fitness.

no way........what about the skill level. as we have said b4 a lot of reserve sides are full of 19 yo . the good amateur sides would match or beat. who knows. who cares . the on;ly way we d find out would be if say goody sts played westies res. i know whod i pick.(not westies) see but the league would be diff. it would be closer. westies by 8 to 10 goals due to the fitness. i tell you what unless youve played with an amateur side, they start training now in nov and train really hard. all it is is a different comp. sanfl with 9 teams. saafl with 80. but saafl is aff with sanfl?

Would back most SANFL ressies sides to beat A1 teams.

yes they are young but only half of them are eligible for U/19s and some of those are playing ressies instead of 19s becasue they are reserve grade standard not 19s standard.

They have much superior fitness than an A1 team.

Yes each A1 side would have half their side capable of playing 2s footy (some prob even higher but they made the choice not to commit to the training demands of league footy) but the drop off in standard after that is where the average reserves team (IMHO) will walk all over an A1 team
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I have played both reserves and div. 1 footy and believe that a top div. 1 team, i.e. Goodwood's current line up, would win the flag in SANFL reserves. The reserves teams would have fitness on their side, but as other posters said, they are made up of a lot of young inexperienced guys, most of whom don't end up making the grade at league level, and lots of whom (I know of plenty) end up playing at a lot lower standard than div. 1.

Div. 1 teams, on the other hand, contain some experienced players who would walk all over anyone playing reserves footy, and some who would even dominate league footy. Admittedly, they drop off more depth wise as well.

As for a div. 1 team playing a league team, forget about it. The bottom team would get over them by 10 goals and the others by a lot more. They may have some average players, but they would have a better spread of top end players.
Don't be scared. Now is not the time!
