Excellent points Shrek. If I was Hosie it would drive me nuts working with the crackpots in Tynte St. About time the clubs all voted and told Shadiac what to do. Shadiac works for the clubs I thought - he does what he is told by the 68 clubs. At the moment he treats it like his competition and every decision made comes back to him.
Club have to have the balls to tell this guy what is going on not be dictated to by a dictator. Who runs the League - THE CLUBS NOT HIM The game is not only portrayed like a Sunday Netball Comp but certainly run like one. Get him to shape up or ship out And yes Shrek - Sportsbeat costs the club around 36,000 bucks a year. Nice to have some of that back in our banks and better facilites not seeing 5-6 pages of crap written each week

Totally agree Shrek.

We have people from 4 different clubs at work and the Budget is the regular talking point on Fridays. There was nothing worse than going to a neutral game and finding no team list for the spectators, and therefore having to pester a local for the numbers of some of the players you wanted to specifically watch.

I pick up Sportsbeat at the rooms on a Saturday and read it later if I am bored. It usually takes 5 minutes at the most. On the other hand, the Budget takes around 30 minutes + and is a enjoyable read. PLUS, it supports all divisions - that means the other 60 (?) odd clubs other than D!.

I suspect the problem is that the League have painted themselves into a corner, and a lot of "face" is involved. They would rather try to get Sportsbeat up to save face, unfortunately, to the detriment of us.

I haven't been a club administrator, but to me, the only way to sort this is for the clubs to band together to convince the League to see reason. Everyone keeps blaming Shadiac, but there are people above him, and they are not the sort of people to be just figureheads.

$36 000 a year for Sportsbeat!?!!?!? Are you serious?

What did it cost to print of a budget? Wasn't it $1. For $36k you could print off 2000 copies of the budget each week for the minor rounds. I'm sure the cost would actually be less than that when printing in bulk.

That is 36,000 bucks for only 5-6 pages as well printed on toilet paper. The Budget costs a $1 for 44 pages on reasonable paper. You tell me where the extra money goes. 38 Pages difference in quality and quantity and the prices just dont add up do they. Very odd things happening

The budget is a very good read. I think one of the reasons the league isnt supporting the budget is that there are some sponsors that arent endorsed by the league which was mentioned at the AGM. I would like the league to sit down with the main writers of the budget and have a good chat so that it can be supported, this would be a good start.

thanks for the pm everyboysdream, how can we support you guys more so that Shadiac and Co. can listen to you all?

The sponsors came onboard after the league said it wouldn't be a part of it. I'm sure if the league made it an official publication there wouldn't be this problem.

I heard a rumour, and it may only be one, that any sponsorship Shadiac brings into the league personally, he recieves 50% of it.

I think that's the case over a nominated base figure, eg if the sponsorship budgeted base was $100k and $150K came in, 50% of the overs would be $25K less tax for the boss.
Now that is just plain dumb, don't you think?

Easy ring him and voice your approval. Get other guys who are in the League to ring him. Surely he is not that arrogant, but from what Ive heard he probably is. Have your club delegate out vote the Sportsbeat at the next meeting. Hey Shadiac works for the Clubs, he thinks that he runs the clubs. He has everyone bluffed with smoke and mirrors. He is only a paid servant of the clubs (an over paid one but still just a servant)
A huge number of delegates will be going him at the next meeting about not having Sportsbeat. Let your club be one. But certainly get you and everyone you know to ring him and voice your disapproval at what he is doing. If more than half of the clubs outvote his idea then he cant do a thing.
Be a club that REFUSES TO either take or pay for their quota of Sportsbeat for next year. If half the clubs refuse to pay for the Sportsbeat - then Shadiac can not do a thing. What can he do - fine everyone?????
Time clubs and people took a stance with this bloke as he really is all bluff, smoke and mirrors

Unfortunately ebd the sportsbeat payment is included in the calls
If you dont pay the calls, you dont field a side
Im not disagreeing with your points but I will not hold my club to ransom over a publication

Having read everything about sports beat and budget - I am suprised that no one has asked the obvious question

If the league is doing a media review then why has it already committed to sports beat in 2009?

Perhaps this should have been raised at the AGM ;)

How is Shadiac appointed? Does he hold a permanent position or is he elected? If the former, how are issues raised about his performance? If the later, how long are the terms, has anyone stood against him recently, and how close was the vote?
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.
