Your memory is close to breaking point. This was before my time at the club but you are around the mark. The SAFA concept sent a lot of clubs very close to breaking point, Gepps Cross included.
Your reference to the council happened a few years ago(6-7) when many clubs in the PAEC area owed the council money, Gepps owed ($70K) as a result of us completing the extension work that council pulled the finance on earlier. Other clubs to receive the same assistance were Greenacres, Kilburn, Gaza, Rosewater and many other smaller clubs that owed money to Council. These debts were "wiped off' on the proviso that the club entered into an agreement with council to show due diligence and put things in place with better administration and programs to ensure it never happened again. They also cut the lease arrangements back to a yearly review and business plans were reviewed every 3 months to ensure everything was on track. No council loans could be given or undertaken to these clubs for a minimum of 5 years.
What people do not understand is that all improvements done to the clubrooms NEVER become the property of the club, they belong to the council irresepective of how much you spend, you are only increasing the asset of the Council, noone else.
Northgate Community & Sports Club has spent in excess of $600K of members funds to improve the facilities they will never own, it has been a great effort and something to be proud of.
It also proves that if you are prepared to work hard at achieving something you really want, it can be done

Let's stop this and start slinging s***t at Jimmy instead. Us inner nothern suburbanites should rally together against the college poofs. When are some of them going to get a grant so we don't come back from their changreooms with typhoid.

I'm not surprised Jimmy got TB from playing there.

Now that sounds like a good idea, I wonder if he'll come along on Sunday for a beer and snag?

By the way Ace, a bloke who had a stint with you guys is running Auskick at Kilburn this year. The incomparable Darren Francis!

Next time you see him, remind him he still owes me $80.00 for a pair of footy boots he never paid me for.
We too are taking a socially responsible pathway, as evidenced by the things we have had as Community events over the last few weeks. Nearly $5k for the Bushfire Relief Appeal and this Sunday's event for the W&CH are not bad for a start.
With regards Council grants, we were all geared up for new lights for next season with their

assistance but for which we needed to contribute a fair proportion and council advised us yesterday that all future works are now on hold indefinitely (up to 10 years), only work in progress is to be completed so that buggers that idea.

With regards the comment about "Giving and not taking away from the community" and having 3 pokies, am I right in thinking then that if someone loses $100 on the pokies, you give it back to them?

under lights at kilburn oval versus gepps a few years ago someone yells out to darren "who bought your boots this year francis" his reply, "you did, same pair as last year" were you the one that yelled out to him aceman?? he was sharp as a knife with the comeback that night old franky!

No it wasn't me but I know who it was, it was a very quick retort by the lad but I still haven't got my $80.00

Try getting some of your own Club members to at least partially like you before sprouting off about great Clubs with better history than the boys from the Prickle patch. Johnny come lateleys are a dime a dozen.

I seem to remember that phrase has been used by a previous poster, maybe we should investigate further.
Sh*t aceman, what have you done to upset this wizz kid, you didn't crap on his doormat too like someone else we know, did you?

Whats happening with the Northgate football club that was bandied around ???????
I had a lot of old mates who would die with their leg in the air if the name dissapeared

FF, nice to hear from you, whose corridors are you hanging around in these days, still at Broadies?

The Northgate name has been put in the cupboard for the time being but we need all of those mates of your's to be reincarnated and come back, preferably not with their leg in the air and keep the place vibrant, you know what I mean.
Old players don't die, but shit they have plenty to say from the shadows or the puppets that purport to be interested.
Come along one day, we'll let you know when the free beer's on again!

ps If you had mates, they either died with their leg in the air or they didn't, either way they're dead.

No mate, done a lot of things but "not guilty" on that charge!
Was not involved in any of that although a lot of people think differently as maybe even you do.

ps, his mate at the time had a bit of influence in that although he would deny it till he was blue in the face, the old rock!
