I just hope the delegates make the right decision. There realy is no need to change what is already working.

And the league listens to them!~!!!!

Seriously its not that far to travel a couple of times a year, playing a team game you can car pool with three other blokes and it would cost $5 in fuel each at most?

I dont think that is the issue EV. The main issue from what I can gather from everyone else is the unfairness that it will create. I know that the top 2 Div's will stay the same but if say a div 3 side tackles say a div 6 or 7 side the lower grades will get spanked week in week out. There fore no player would want to be involved in a drubbing each and every week. I know you stay with your club through thick and thin but it would be mentally demoralising.

That would be the main concern. Although without anyone taking offence to this as it was the case twice for me as a kid. I could not afford to get to a game because the funds were dried up. I think this can and may be a problem for some.

And what sponsor would want to be involved with a club that has no success. Has no one back at the club for drinks and teas etc and no one to see there marketing and so on. I wouldnt jump on and sponsor if I knew no one would know or see my companies name.

Also.......

If the league stipulates that there has to be delegates at each and every club but wont listen to them and make up their own mind. Whats the point of having delegates in the first place.
If this was to be the case. That would be a p!ss poor effort from the league (im not having a direct crack at the league FC just a thought).

Maybe i didnt get accross what i was saying clearly but i agree with you. If people are struggling with funds to get to the grounds im sure with a bit of planning on Thursday nights people will be more then happy to take passangers with them on away games. I know i have done this on many occasions as im sure plenty of others have.

Im sure before the league moves any futher with this they will make it clear why they believe this suggestion is a good idea and benificial to ALL clubs.

Plympton has chartered a bus to Smithfield this weekend, no issue, takes 30 minutes to organise...

Just on this, i'm looking forward to hearing why the SAAFL thinks this is benificial, i've heard lots from clubs, lots from supporters, lots on here... But haven't heard the SAAFL really sell this idea.

Maybe someone on here can run me through any correspondence that the SAAFL has given to the clubs as to why this is a good idea...

I said on here mid last year this was on the cards. I beleive it would work ONLY if the SFL and SAAFL joined affiliations and then you could have D1-5N and D1-5 S. Not going to happen anytime in the near future so I predict it would be a waste of time atm.

As a player in a North - South comp in 1995 - 97 it does not work here are a few scores from 1995

Elizabeth 20.22 Broadview 7.4
Smithfield 32.21 Broadview 9.6
Eastern Park 46.23 Ovingham 1.2
Elizabeth 60.29 Ovingham 1.6
St Pauls 58.22 Ovingham 1.4
Smithfield 54.35 Ovingham 2.1
Broadview 35.13 Ovingham 7.13

This was the year that all the sides from the NMFL joined. As you can see it was our C grade side up against A Grade sides. This is what could happen to Henley, Tea Tree Gully, Athelstone or any other club whose C grade has a good season and wins the D6 or D7 flag and is promoted the following year.

There is not a lot of support for this concept from some of the SAAFL Executive but is being slighly pushed by John Schulz and Geoff Heard I believe. Might be a way of getting all the College sides together for their own "little love in"

The system works perfectly well now no need to change.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

From what I understand the SAAFL as in Gino and Mark S aren't selling it because they're not convinced of its future and quite rightly so IMO. This has primarily been driven by Geoff Heard (Scotch) and John Schultz (Kenilworth), for what reason I'm not sure but if Geoff Heard is involved, you'd have to think it would be self (Scotch) serving. I'm not sure it would be totally fair to blame the management of the SAAFL on this occasion.

and I can assure you, we are not for it. We dont want a "college" grade. We have always been club that wants to play in the highest grade possible, against anyone. If you lose players or drop a grade; pick yourself up, work harder and go again.

I will say it again - it is a crap idea

I'll think you'll find guys, that it's just that - an idea.

I've not heard from anywhere that this idea will be pushed. It's simply for discussion.

Thanks for the info, i am still puzzled as to why it would be good for the game or the competition.

Its interesting that Kenilworth are for it, and no disrespect, but that could possibly send it to even bigger beltings than its getting now...

If it happens then IMO Plympton should head back to the Southern League, this split could heave the SFL rubbing its hands together with the prospect of becoming the premier competition of the South-Western suburbs... An area it has not had a strong hold on since the late 80's.

Plympton would enter a better comp, old rivalries, bigger crowds, more $$ turnover. And i would be surprised if the SFL wouldnt be making a few phonecalls to a few clubs if this idea gained momentum.

Yeah I think it could be a tad ambitious. But hey as chicky said it's an idea. If something got shot down with every idea we'd be a backwater........ (Wait a minute...)
