BRING BACK THE LOVELOCK SHIELD JUNE LONG WEEKEND!!

The Lovelock Shield appears dead.

BUT the SFL and the HFL have struck a deal for the next 10 years which will see the 2 comps play each other in under 13/15/17 and A grade on the Sat of the long w/end.(junior grades could change to 14/16/18) but it will happen with HFL hosting the first year and alternate year after. Dont recall the ground but it will be played under lights/trophys have been named/medals named/and HFL have even appointed their coach in B James!!

Dissapointing for all that would love to see the Lovelock and the rivalry with the GSFL but I believe the admin of another league couldnt come to the party so we at least get association footy.

Played at Hahndorf in the first year.

Still an option in the contract for GSFL and RMFL to join in, but the strength of SFL juniors makes it hard for those leagues to have an even contest beyond senior level.

Looks like the match between the SAAFL & SFL is dead.

Time for open age State Football again I hope.

Surprising nothing coming from the Commander in the Bunker on this. Probably trying to come up with something else and not what we want.

That's a shame becuase it was the only game set in concrete for the U18's as well.

For the past 2 years, hills has pulled out on games with the U18 side meaning that the june long weekend game was the only hit out they got. Hardly good organisation for the development of a rep side.

Being thumped by a top of the table Glenelg doesnt do much for the confidence of these kids... and after all, these guys are our senior/U23/SANFL players of the future - and need to be treated with more respect.

Im hoping that the U18 will improve dramatically next year.

As for the 23's, you don't realise that WA are the ones kicking up the stink about having 23's or they won't play, which means we lose our tri-state battles.

if WA pull out we'd struggle to find another state to play.

So in fact the SAAFL have their hands tied - it's not Marks decision at the end of the day. Go and whinge to the AAFC.

*edit* sorry that didn't read correctly - both TAS and VIC have U23 sides and Vic has an open side that playes someone else but WA and TAS won't play open. - I think Im confusing myself now

In our Centenary season we should be playing an Open Age match against Vic.

As you stated they do have an open age team.

This is what the clubs want and the players.

But like the media review that the clubs never got!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but promised

We will again be told by the league that we are wrong and that we only wnat U/23 football

Enough is Enough!!! Dump this sham called U/23 and get back to real state football and make the players earn their SA & AAFC jumpers not just handed to them beacuse they are U/23 it is really pi@ss&ing off the blokes that want to play rep football that can't.

SAAFL players are leaving the SAAFL and going to play in other leagues and getting to play rep football. This is fact!!!!!
We can't offer it to them.

About time WA & TAS, H.T.&.U. and played real rep football.

FC is on the money here.

When i was involved in the U23's it was talked about in our meetings that the only reason we do not play open age is because WA would not play if this was the case.

Then once Tas was asked to get involved last year, they said that they will only join in if it was to stay open age.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the SAAFL Team of the Year would be playing the Southern League this year instead of the SAAFL U23 side. Could this be a step in the right direction?

As an outsider in this debate, it appears FE has some problems with the SAAFL that has become an obsession.

Is the answer as simple as...

ask the clubs what they want.... or is that a ridiculous notion..... or not that simple??
Opinions and bumholes..you either have one or are one IMO

What you have to remember FE is:

If the SAAFL goes to open-age state football (assuming that VAFA would even want to play us) then there goes the competition in AAFC.

If the SAAFL can no longer compete in the AAFC competition then there will be NO state football for SAAFL at all.

Also at the moment (now with the Southern League game being canned) the only opportunity the SAAFL has to represent itself is in the City v Country game which is OPEN-AGE.

I reckon you're on the money TRFC.
Incidentally, with your User name, are you implying that our other colleague FC is "not real?"

User name has nothing at all to do with Footy Chick - FC stands for something else.
I know its not the best user name - especially as it may be seen as detrimental to FC.
Unfortunately I'm not very creative & that is all I could come up with at the time.
