From todays Advertiser:

The South Australian Amateur Football League structure will be reviewed next year. Chief Executive Mark Shadiac said it was possible geographically-based zones or conferences could be introduced to reduce costs and assist clubs with their budgets. "The issues we're having a look at are the costs associated with the changing economic climate like petrol and travel," he said. "Geography is something we will look at but we need to consult widely with clubs to see what their positions might be."

The economic downturn would impact on the competition and a new structure could ease the burden on clubs, players and volunteers. Shadiac said there would be no major changes to the competition for season 2009 but financial issues meant a review was needed. "There has been a proposal submitted but we feel it would be premature to embark on the implementation of that next year," he said. "We need to ask ourselves if there is a need and we also need to be mindful that amateur football is about social and sporting interaction across all socio-economic areas and across boundaries."

Here's how you save money for clubs. Less affiliation fees. Less free trips for Amateur League fatcats.

A foolish idea. Merely a faux attempt at looking progressive.

The diversity of the league is it's strength.

It's the same for the clubs in the north as it is for the clubs in the south. We had to go to Mitcham and Unley in 07, stiff shit. It happens.

would suggest that it would start below a4 level as results have shown that teams being promoted from div7-div5 have generally been competitive in the main. my opinion only though.

I'd like to know what would happen if the two teams relegated from A3 to the region-based comps were from say, the southern part of the league? Would the league send up two teams from Div 4 South to replace them both, or would they send one from the south and one from the north up and consequently have an extra team in the south divisions?

Or vice versa?

i'd suggest lowest/highest from each geographical division unless highest was lower than say third

So if northern teams occupied say the bottom three spots on the ladder and a southern team finished 7th, they'd relegate the teams that finish 7th and 10th? That can't happen.

its been successful for so long why change it. we went from gawler one week to wos the following and didnt hear any whinging from any one. you have to travel to nine away games of which 3 or 4 may be a distance away. not too bad i would have thought in a 18 week season.

div 3 downwards would be north and central..so a relegated team from say div 4 north goes to div 5 north, div 4 central relegated team goes to div 5 central ..simple

as for the div 1 and 2 and its in and outs i dont know..

its has had changes before tired tiger..dont you remember the "amatuer" and "paid" splitting of the divisions?
