I think a lot of people tend to de-humanise Sudanese refugees. They don't speak to them and all they see is groups of kids looking 'menacing'. De-humanising them makes it easier for people not to feel a sense of obligation to find out about their stories and help them out.
This thread is important because it shows that these kids are just like any others. They play footy and go to school just like thousands of other kids. Although it shouldn't be necessary, knowing this should help us all relate to, and empathise with them. Hopefully, this can dispell some all too common perceptions of these Sudanese lads just being dark, dangerous figures hanging around the streets.

On behalf of the Kenilworth Football Club i would like to pass on our sincere condolences to Daniels family and also to the injured lad (Gurang) who is still in hospital in critical care..both played for our juniors this year with Gurang playing nearly every game as a ruckman..new lives shattered in a foreign country..a sad day for all concerned, RIP

Kenilworth should be congratulated for helping these boys out.
