TIME KEEPING

Postby Cohiba » Wed May 01, 2013 2:23 am

Lesson for all Clubs that my be interested, in this case those that field and U18's sides in particular. As they play to set time periods each quarter, it would smart for the visiting teams to have someone sitting with the host time keepers......My understanding is that during a match last week, whilst the first 3 terms were spot on in time elapsed for each quarter, personnel monitoring the time became concerned believing that the final term extended beyond the time that should heard the final siren. Play continued with the home team still 2 points in arrears. When approached about the overtime, it appears the only response was that the visitors should have supplied a representative to sit in and ensure the integrity of the timekeeper. In this case quite right too.....albeit not being a problem elsewhere, but lesson learned at this Club. Fortunately the correct result prevailed, defusing a potentially nasty confrontation...... Clubs beware if you don't have a timekeeper sit in, you have no basis to launch a complaint if you end up being done over.

As easy as it is and simple to understand that someone from both sides should oversea the timekeeping, it can be sometimes hard to find an extra volunteer willing to donate the time.

Personally i think it should be similar to rugby leage, whereas both sides receive the others team sheets, get the team managers together, sit down and record the lineups in a book side by side complete with numbers etc, and then score/timekeep together. Record goal kickers in the book, surely between both managers they can work out who kicks the goals.

At the conclusion of the game, team managers sign the book, umpire(s) sign the book and give a copy to the away team, fax a copy to the league and the home side keeps a copy in the book.

Thoughts?

Maybe you should give them a chisel and a stone tablet to record the scores, etc, and then they can send the scores in by smoke signals.
or maybe they could use those computer thingamajigs that every club has and send the scores in via the interweb. ;)

Not talking about the scores you silly sausage head, i'm talking about having a central point at games where the time keeping is done as well as recording the goal kickers. Correct me if i'm wrong, but currently each team manager records goal kickers during the game then gives the opposition a list at the end of the game anyway? Having a central point would enable both teams to record goal kickers etc whilst looking after the time.. eliminate the excuses, cuts down the problems!

Yes, well I thought that wasn't a bad suggestion but thought I'd take the piss out of the prehistoric recording methods. I did have one problem with it though, how do you allow for time-on on the sundial?
