You would think there would be 2 official processes to go through before this can be put to bed. One would be the SFL delegates voting on it (next Tuesday). The other would be Townies AGM.

The feel on the SFL board seems a bit either way mainly to do with them taking or not taking all junior sides over.

If what efc says is correct and there has been dwindling support you would think there would need to be a complete movement from a section of the club to stop it going through.

It's not all done yet but it would seem to be pretty close.

A story in the Southern Times Messenger this week is that Edwardstown were likely to join the SFL next year.

They don't like the promotion-relegation system? They need to stabilise themselves? They've been in A1 or A2 for a fair while, they don't look all that unstable from the outside. Sounds like they're taking the easy option so they can beat up on Hackham and the like year after year...

I was told a little story that a former coach with strong ties to the SFL got the gig at Edwardstown a couple of years ago and was shattered that every week they were playing in front of 50 people,so he took the Edwardstown Pres down to a SFL game on a Sunday(Reynella/M/vale) and was just blown away by the full house and passion, from that time on you will find that they or he has pushed to be part of the SFL.

that was most probably when they were last in Div 1 and couldn't attract the crowds because they were getting thrashed every week.

What makes them think they would get a crows down at the Southern League, whilst they may get the other clubs supporters to the matches, doesn't mean their supporters will turn out in force, it is a culture thing, just by moving comp doesn't mean it automatically means increase in home crowds etc (besides the extra crowds that other clubs will bring when edwardstown play them), however they cant rely on other clubs crowds, they have to build there own club support and culture, but good luck to them.

All this talk about amateur league vs southern league, they have nothing on the Hills League for atmosphere and crowd support, however it would seem that Southern Leagues have it over Amateurs at this stage on crowd and atmosphere, however it would seem that it is more a suburd against suburb, so they have all around support, where is take Elizabeth for example, they have Elizabeth, Central United, Eastern Park, then Salisbury area have Salisbury, Salisbury North, Salisbury West, Brahma Lodge, so is more a suburban league, however amateurs also have the old collegians as well, so support for these are also shared for local suburbs.

Perhaps the Amateur League can learn something from Southern League

Obviously in the Amatauer League it's harder to build the rivalries up because teams are changing divisions, but there isn't a team getting belted by 40 goals every week like there is in the Southern League. If the CDFL started back up again (Elizabeth & Salisbury clubs), that's what would happen if Salisbury North played Central United.

Perhaps the Southern League can learn something from the Amatuer League about an even competition.

Good point Pag, however more and more each year there are huge gaps between the tope 6 sides in each divisions, and the bottom four in amateurs, however saying that clubs then get a chance to regroup when they go down a division, i.e. CLG, Golden Grove, Greenacres for example, so there are arguments for and against relegation and a good argument for two divisions in Southern League, as the Hackhams etc will always struggle against the reynellas, morphett vales, so they should attract more clubs into the league and then make two divisions again

How would this work for promotion to Div 2? Only 1 team North and Central would make the GF and could have a situation that the best 4 teams in the Div 3 competition all play in the central div? You might end having a team go up simply because of location.
