Good luck to both coaches today Ricky Pearce ( Portland ) & Mark Tylor ( Port Districts ) both have done a great job for respective sides.
Ricky bringing Portland from Div 3 to Div 1 in only 3-4 years has been remarkable in a sense as Portland i thought from a clubs perspective have always been content in Div 3-4, the club has finally listened to the people that matter & upped the $$$, not to a large degree but to enable them to be competitive with some other clubs.
Mark Tylor took on the Districts job & bought in some fresh young faces after losing alot of experience from last year, he didn't pannick & blooded the young ones to have a good blend with what experience remained.
Should be a cracker of a game as theirs been nothing between these two sides all year, can't wait i just hope the Amateur League can cater for the big crowd that'll be there, as LMA stated " 2 Port clubs " who's supporters love their " amber fluids ". Don't let the die hards down & run out ..........again.

Excuse my ignorance here, but is there a massive rivalry and hatred between these 2 clubs? Or because Portland have been in lower divs in previous years, there isn't too much there?

Big rivalry built in the last 3 years anyway.
Districts have always been Div1-2 for many years but since Portlands rise from the lower grades the hatred has been building each year.
its good for footy, i'm sure they have alot of respect for each other too!

Great win by portland considering no one rated them at the start of the season (5%) correct me if im wrong but is this portlands first venture into Div 1?? if so will they need to recruit a couple of extra players to be competitive or can this current group gel and be a major threat??

Yes is their first year in division one. Formed in 97, division 4 premiers 2000 and 2008. Division 3 runners up in 2010?
They have a good young group that will improve but probably need to pick up a few to be competitive in division one I would think.
I'm number 1, so why try harder!!

thanks for the run down Sturtman :) what will portland need?? run and carry off the half back?? I think the forwards are fine mids will cope but any team with a solid backline will go a long way in Div1

If you ask Young Jarrod Wareing all they need is a few players to support him, and he will be able to do the rest!

I would suspect they would like to recruit a FF, CHF, and FB.
Prior, who was providing a forward target on one leg won't be available next year; and I don't think Walker will be going on next year either. They will need a couple extra targets up forward, as you can't rely on Stokes to be the sole forward target.

If Granleese, Draper and Cochiarro go on next year their back line would be in good nick, but as I say may want another key position defender; Taylor from Gepps Cross would be a good in if he can be lured accross with his friends Lockwood and Catterall.

I don't think they'll be doing much recruiting from Goodwood or Salisbury North.

It'll be a fight between the 2 Port clubs for all Port Magpie players on the move.

Do you think there will be that many up for grabs? A couple of ex-Districts juniors I thought may go back to them have already been aligned with country clubs from what I've heard.
I'm expecting most to head to the country.

nonetheless im certain thered be at least 10 blokes on the ground thatd be sick of playing b-grade all year and never getting a-grade selection

clever recruiters need not hav to go far this week, especially if theyre offering cash to play regular agrade week in week out
