welcome to amateur football, teams go in cycles so at their height you would expect to contest finals, hopefully winning 1 and then maybe a 2nd or securing your position in the next grade on the down slide losing & relegation. Brahma didn't struggle was poor management of funds that caused their downfall & saafl shouldn't have given them an easy way out should have left them in the higher grade & copped their licks as other sides have had to endure.

I love you minion master but crap that spews out of your mouth at times astounds me. Brahma refused to match country payments, that's why their players left. Don't confuse them with Westies and Kilburn.

still boils down to miss-management & not crap, lesson is don't pay a large amount to a great percentage or you're building a house of cards!

It is all essentially the same thing though.

Once you're retaining loyalty solely for $$$ it's a live by the sword, die by the sword game as Brahma learned.

I get that but are you trying to say that Brahma should've shown no balls and just paid whatever the country clubs were paying at the demand of it's players?

didnt a heap of them go to salisbury west?

imo the rot actually started with the TTG C grade in 2013 being dragged screaming into div 6 and putting up the white flag after 2 games and going to a lower grade..even if it was a clubs C grade not A grade..i said at the time that was setting a very bad precedent but i was howled down..look at what has happened since..

historically clubs have had to endure the pain and i have played and coached in basket case teams so i know exactly how it feels..that was life..now they pick and choose what option they want to ensure they can win games..and you get the farcical salisbury situation..

This is missing the point entirely.

They couldnt afford to keep their disloyal, peaheart players and they left.

Poor management initially attracted and paid the disloyal peahearts

Management blew an unsustainable bubble of success and it burst all over their face.

A stronger stance by the SAAFL would have made clubs more weary about this high risk approach. Building a club without a foundation in strong juniors or a strong school connection has demonstrated to almost never work long term

Shouldn't have got sucked into the life cycle of buying loyalty in the fist place and instead focused on a sustainable model without getting lured by the prospects of short term success

maybe the cap level gives all clubs a chance to stop the paying cycle, have a look at where they are , where they want to be and what is sustainable. Introduce performance payments to players rather than set contract amounts, where they receive a retainer and balance if in best players or just the retainer if played poorly or increase the overall number of best player awards, this may stop the $$$ mercenaries and at least ensure they have some vested interest in joining your club but I suspect there will always be clubs looking for a quick rise through the ranks so will continue to be a problem

Brahma shouldn't have put themselves in that situation to start with and were happy to play a GF and embrace all the accolades that go with it but then not be willing to go up or stay in that current grade due to their own poor choices.

Havens signing new ruckmen after the he shook hands and agreed to terms with Bridgewater. Seems to be around the $$$ side of things. Understand if an offer is made and its higher but to shake hands with a club and agree is a bit daft!

There's an old saying around these parts...handshake agreements aren't worth the paper they're written on ;)
