Edwardstown Moving to SFL

Adelaide Footy League Talk

There seems to be a lot of angst towards the administrators of the SAAFL. What are the alternative leagues for clubs to playing in other than SAAFL? Only a couple of clubs would be geographically close to Barossa - Gawler, 6 - 12 to the SFL, and at a push only one to the Hills?
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.

And the BLG wouldn't take anyone anyway, the only clubs in the mix would be Trinity OS or Angle Vale, and neither are at the standard or have the facilities, same with the Adelaide Plains. Country leagues need a fence around the oval so they can get gate takings, something which not alot of SAAFL clubs have.

some of the clubs in the north could always re-form the old Central Districts Association, there would be at least 10-12 clubs that could start in it.

Is it correct that the the BLG was formed from a Barrossa league and the remnants of the CDA (Gawler area teams)?

The problem was with Edwardstown not the SAAFL. Townies are making excuses without looking at themselves for answers. Good riddance to bad rubbish. I'm glad I don't have to travel to that hole again.

No, it used to be the CDFA then became the NMFL around 1990, it had the following clubs in it.

Elizabeth
Smithfield
Salisbury
Salisbury West
Salisbury North
Eastern Park
Central United
Brahma Lodge
Paralowie
Westfields (now defunct) 80's
Blakeview (now defunct) late 80's
Elizabeth North (now defunct) 80's
Kaurna United (now defunct) 80's
Hope Valley (had a few years in CDFA) 80's
Virginia (had a few years in CDFA) late 80's early 90's

There may have been a couple of others but I've killed too many brain cells along the way. There used to be 3 divisions at one stage too, C's played on Sundays, classical "C" grade footy.

This would never work nowadays, or it would turn into the Southern League's equivalent.

No, I'd doubt it would, pokies gives Salisbury North & West a bit of an edge.
Eastern Park have been massive improvers.

Salisbury North would still win the GF by ten goals, and would kick cricket scores against Central United and Brahma Lodge

Sunday A's (C Grade) is brilliant for any number of reasons
- People who work saturday's
- People who can't get enough (Double up after the Magoo's)
- People who don't take it too seriously
- Spectators, lazy sunday afternoon feel especially with a sunny day
- Can play directly after the Sunday juniors, creating a club atmosphere

Not ever played for or against the townies, but are they really that bad? If so, why? Or is this just a case of "Your with us or against us" rhetoric?

I wasn't arguing the C Grade point mate, I was arguing the concept of playing the local clubs against each other. The range of $$ available and standards between clubs is astronomical.

But with the C Grade, the CDJFL play all the juniors (Under 7s -15s), as well as the Under 17s/18s, so that wouldn't fit either.

Probably the latter. I'm with everyone else here though, they put out a sob story about how they don't like the promotion/relegation sytem and all this crap. They're not exactly struggling either, they were a win away from going back up to A1. From an outsider's point of view, it seems like they want success and are prepared to take the easy option of playing against Hackham and the like so they can play finals every year.

Bunch of sooks, harden the **** up and try climb the divisions here like every other club does.

Oops... Didn't mean to quote you, was just a comment on the C grade.

It'd be nice if you could get he u/17's (don't agree with u/18's - you're old enough to be playing seniors) to play before the Magoo's on a Saturday. I don't think the college argument against really holds sway for year eleven's and twelves, who'd be two busy with studies to commit to two games of footy and training. Even if they were only drawn every second or third week, it'd add to the atmosphere

The above series of posts are way off the mark, ill-informed, naive and uneducated, you blokes are just guessing and speculating which is not the same as having an opinion. The decision was more to do with club survival, than a football decision, everyone down there is very keen...

We will finally be able to put a form line through SAAFL and SFL after Edwardstown compete in 2009...

Jayne, what is meant by club survival? Financial issues or what, surely not lack of numbers or support. Doesn't John the Northern Plumbing man keep the club afloat a fair bit financially, you've got good clubrooms so what is the problem.?
