Yeah I can imagine Eastern Park oval being fit enough to host as SANFL game.
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

I reckon this has more merrit that most give credit for. You don't hold meetings such as this then tell people we don't know the scenario if we join the SAAFL. Unlike Edwardstown many of the Brighton faithful would already know what the Amateurs are like.
Do Glenelg and West Adelaide want their fringe players potentially playing against Aldinga, Lonsdale ect who are @ best are lower div 6 standard?

This is the slow death of the SFL.

Agreed. I do know of Brighton and have been there. I know a little of their strength in the SFL. I agree entirely that the SFL is a piss ant little league, as opposed to the SAAFL. Much like the Barossa League, they do many things extremely well though, such as run Grand Finals and similar events, I agree entirely that any of the clubs from the SFL or any other league, should be admitted back into the SAAFL if they want, BUT I do worry about a president being set and even in this isolated case, for one club to move back into the D3 competition. There are a host of clubs in D4, D5, D6, D7 who have to earn their way through to higher grades, by hard work and playing in grand finals. Earning the right through to a higher grade as opposed to a FREE meal ticket back to D3 is IMO the only way back. They (admittedly under a different administration) decided to leave the SAAFL before, for greener pastures, so why should the clubs like Golden Grove, Salisbury, Brahma Lodge, Hope Valley, Mawson Lakes etc, etc, etc, etc, all have had to work their collective arses off to move through the grades due to performances. Would feel for those in those clubs who have been doing all the right things over the years in their quest to play in higher grades. Can understand how these clubs and many others would all be highly annoyed at another club from another association shooting past them, because of their strength in another competition or because they simply want to come back to the SAAFL because it now suits them. By all means let the SAAFL meet and greet Brighton, but coming back to D3 IMO is just not on and far too high a grade and clubs below them, who rightly are only interested in their own situation and what happens within their own walls. would be seriously pissed off. That is my opinion and won't be swayed otherwise and would feel for the clubs who are left in the lower grades, if this ever occurred. Clubs have long earned the right of passage through to higher grades. Disregarding if it is Brighton or any other club, they should have earned it, as per every other club in the SAAFL. Clubs like Adelaide University have fallen in D2 from D1 after nearly 100 years of competition, but they have had to earn the rights back to D1 and won't be given a FREE passage back. It is a matter of principal and not the club or clubs, and not how many sides they have or how much money they have.

For those clubs below Div 3 it probably places extra importance on actually winning your respective grand finals then you don't have the problem of the league admitting a club in a division above you....

I seriously doubt that any top SFL would be anywhere near Div 1. 4 of my current players in Div 7 have all been A graders at Happy Valley and if they went back tomorrow still would and they are not exactly tearing Div 7 apart. Happy Valley are on top. Just sayin'.

I think you are still smarting from whatever happened to you at Towns re the SFL?

Best judge are people who have played both Div 1 SAAFL and SFL. Opinions are often similar. SFL is more physical and the SAAFL has quicker and higher level skills skilled. The top 2 - 3 sides are Mid Div 1 - Mid Div 2 standard.

Valleys are a vastly improved side this year. I think the point re your players is moot. Your lions are having a great year, however in the SFL, they would not be in contention for the 8.

No EV, no issue with Towns from me, it was a very smart financial decision from the club. I still love the place that I am a proud life member of. My comment was regarding the players who came from Valleys still being capable of making Valley's A grade, not the LIONS who as a team and a club, certainly would not be anywhere near the top 10 or 12 in SFL. Not that we would want to go back anyway.

All well and good, but this is a shifting of the goals halfway through. Give clubs notice at the end of this season that in 12 months time only the premier goes up (or 3 go down) in certain divisions and it's less likely to cause a big issue.

Using that logic then clubs should have to give 12 months notice that they are leaving or going to fold.....

Received a phone call this morning from a mate who is a member at Brighton who advised that they are going to delay their decision in requesting to re-join SAAFL for 12 months.
They will be playing in the Southern League in 2013.
2017, 2019 & 2020 PREMIERS
RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

I'm wondering if you've seen Valley play this year? Not one of the players you refer to would make it back into their A Grade side currently. They are a vastly improved unit, have recruited exceptionally well ie: Petersen-Gray, Joel Brown, Nathan Eagleton, Jon Eagleton. Sounds like the opinion of them making HVFC's A Grade may come from those players who were never good enough to take Valley to the top. Maybe you should go watch a Brighton or Happy Valley game and form your own opinions?

Sounds like a lot of SAAFL snobbery from some posters. Comments like....SFL is a pissant little league down south, confirms that you are uneducated in the standard of the SFL. Its true that the bottom clubs are terrible, no doubt, but the top teams are well prepared, coached, and administrated.
If your league is SO great, why is there no junior competition? Where do you get the footballers and families of tomorrow, and what do you do for grass roots footy?
The SFL clubs run programs from u8 level right through to seniors. Some clubs have 2 u14s and 16's and that takes a lot of commitment and hard work....oh and cash.

Now i'm not having a crack at the people or clubs in the ammos..no way, just at some of the snobs who post rubbish.
But calling yourself an "amateur league" is a joke when we all know big money gets thrown at players all the time and has done for decades.
The SFL clubs wouldnt want to be part of a so called amateur comp, knowing full well they would be paying players.
Speaking to some, its ok in the ammos to pay players now......so change the name of your comp!
Just sayin...****ker!!!!

Well, the Southern Football League calls itself a 'league' when in actual fact it is a basket case.

So they should also change their name to the Southern Football Basketcase... SFB!!

Why? That only results in clubs having opportunity to go up or stay up when they otherwise wouldn't. Admitting a club potentially changes the assumption that they're going up with a gf spot or staying put by finishing 7th.
