Any reason why anyboyd would want to play with PAOC. Have thought about it and still can find a reason to play with the reds. Have nothing going for them. The amazing clubrooms and oval maybe and great facilities - ha ha

Not sure about Chris Calyun training but do know for sure that Derek & Kristian have been training at Salisbury West... I also heard that Shannon Goldsmith is training their this week! With Shannon, Derek & Kristian those three themselves are very good ins for Salisbury West.

Wakelin and King from South Adelaide will be rucking for Goodwood. Kendrick Tyrell returning from Norwood as well and will play at CHF or CHB. Why would Wakelin playing for a Amateur Club worry a Divvy 1 club, North discarded him anyway and went back to Goodwood. Makes no sense

Massive Story!

Have just been speaking to a Division 1 umpire and he told me that the SAAFL is bringing in a new policy similiar too the SANFL. Basically all Amatuer league umpires who umpire Divison 1 and 2 will have to sign contracts and train twice a week to get the gig. If they don't than they will umpire as high as Division 3 and 4. This has apparently been put in place because of the excess umpires that will now be available because of the merge of the 17's and 19's in the SANFL.
Sounded good at first to me however, this umpire I have spoken too like alot of other Div 1 and 2 umpires can't commit to training twice a week because of other work commitments..........
He also said that him and about 10-20 other Umpires would refuse to drop from umpiring Div 1 and 2 down to div 4 etc, so therefore they will not umpire in the SAAFL, but rather go country or retire from umpiring.

He also said that you will get a lot of umpires who aren't really that good at Umpiring who will commit to the regulations and would then get the Div 1 games.

Not sure how this will play out, but should be interesting the standard of umpiring we will have next year!

Not quite footy follower

without having the details in front of me, I'll try and explain:

They took a survey of umps and the main thing that stopped them from coming to training was work, family, study etc... they found they had a small group that could commit to training twice a week and undertake all the training programmes etc. They decided that these guys would be the ones that had the qualifications to umpire at the higher levels, ie: div 3 upwards.

Then there were the blokes who could only make it saturdays or couldn't commit to a training schedule or keep up their qualifications would be put into a group called "recreational" umps.

They also have plans for all club umps to partake in a basic umpiring course. The league does recognise that potential/actual bias does happen and are looking at curtailing this by club nominated umpires being assigned "non club" matches. ( I think this is a great idea)

Probably not the best explanation but hopefully you get the drift.

About time - the only way around the club bias, whether real or percepted, is to have them umpire at neutral games. There is always the argument that they want to watch their team, but the League cannot operate without umpires, and the clubs have only themselves to blame for letting the abuse get so bad, a few years ago, to the point that nobody wants to umpire.

I knid of think umpiring non-club games is good in theory too.... but we have another post on this forum where the issue of North/South travel appears and I'm sure umpires would agree that a Golden Grove or Houghton umpire will not want to go umpire a Kenilworth/Flinders Uni/CLG game ? I could see that being a negative factor maybe ?
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

With the umpiring system they are looking at bringing in the young umpires that also do Independent will come in and help from the Division 3 level and then work there way up. The umpiring system has been worked with the help of the SANFL umpires director Shane Harris.
