I'd like to hear the reports from the Igs vs SMOSH game- I thought it would be a close result but didnt expect it to be a blowout in favour of SMOSH...

I haven't seen Igs play this year but in the past they have tended to rely very heavily on their big guns. Perhaps this year might be a bit of the same- they will be a very good side when all their stars are playing but when a couple of them are out, their depth will be tested.

Hardy Hit wrote:CBC v Mitcham was an interesting game. Mitcham pretty much flogged CBC in every stat, except scoring shots and once again struggled to kick straight. At the 22nd minute mark of the last quarter we were done by 1 goal, to then be down by 4 goals at the 29th minute was very disappointing. The oval needs to be looked at. With the kind of weather we've been having all ovals should be in reasonably good condition. They were pretty much playing beach footy out there. There were just random sandpits all over the ground, making turning impossible!

The umpiring wasn't fantastic but were probably better than what we've been getting most other weeks. One interesting point though - which was a bit of shame. The goals umpires we had were very young. One looked maybe 12, the other less than 10. Good on them for giving it a go, would have to take a bit of courage for them to put their hands up and do it but unfortunately some of the decision were horrible to say the least. The younger goal umpire calling a goal goal for CBC when the ball bounced through the points, and a touched point for Mitcham when the ball came off the boot of a mitcham forward (thats 2 goals!!!). Also tried to call a point for when the ball hit the point post - when it's just out of bounds. The players seemed confused, and the Mitcham blokes weren't happy. Which led to the young goal umpire in tears and having to be consoled by the field umpires at 3 quarter time! Surely there's an age limit - thought it was 15??

Not how I saw it, We played a shocker and never looked like losing.
Oval is in pretty good nick considering it didn't have a blade of grass on it 6 weeks ago after Clipsal. I reckon it is pretty rich someone from Mitcham complaining about a lack of grass on an oval.
Umpires were far too young, and we got some pretty rank decisions ourselves.

Not insinuating that the umpires might of had an influence on the outcome, Oh my god 7 days is a long time in football

Dont think that you have to say a thing about the Umpires in D3 there blackcat, as everyone else on this forum, has or is for you. The Footy Budget really just hit the nail right on the head with the ariticle, which was spot on. Lets just hope that one of the Clowns who appoint these pimply faced kids is held accountable when a game gets out of control and a 15 or 16 year old can not control it. It is not the kids fault, as they dont have a life experience to help them. The article was spot on about the the kids umpiring in a grade in which they should be umpiring and not with men. Sooner or later those who make the decisions at Luft Stalag Thebarton will be held accountable for stuffing up the magority of games each Saturday and for a multitude of other things.

teaboy, jimmy, what were you thoughts on the game on the weekend??
seems to always be a very close game with us 2 sides, disapointing for us as we were leading for majority of the final quarter, looked like you blokes just had a bit more class in the end. Should be a very good return clash though.
I didnt see many of your blokes hang around for a beer which was a bit disapointing, must have had a function to get to?

SMOSH vs Old iggies was a great game from the start.

Very even first quarter with both sides probabyl guilty of missing kickable goals. Iggies had the best of the second quarter with a few of their midfielders playing some good footy and their ruckman getting on top. They went into half time 9 points up.

Third quarter was all SMOSH, due to some great clearance work, and pressure tackling. Think it was 7 goals to none and the after kicking the first goal in the last it was pretty much a sealed result for the Lions. Great win, important to honour Cal Masson playing his 200th game in the right manner! Game was played in good spirit between the sides, and TBH Umpiring was pretty good Again following on from last week.

Good to see Fisty and another player from portland making an appaearance at our club TWO WEEKS in a row. Looking for a new club Fisty ;) ?????

Regardless of Umpires, that result from Para Hills/Kilburn was itneresting - few new players out at Kilburn!

all in all a entertaining game of footy, we played 2 good 1/4's of footy and probably only won because we had a bit more juice in the tank, and "junk time" cleggett decided to put on a show up forward.
thought at one stage waering was going to turn the game on its head along with no36, who chopped us up all day. is he the bloke from port?? wouldnt of thought u'd have his services much this year.

as said will be interesting game on our bigger oval. i think is some ways it will suit you blokes but the fitness may again help us. either way always a cracker day our games.
i thought our umps were consistant in that they called the same stuff all day a lot of it imo was a little to quick on the whistle but you have to adjust your game to it.

wareing is slowly getting better, think its the swimming we are doing together on wednesday nights!
the bigger oval will suit us a bit more, but we alos like the in close physical stuff, fitness will improve more as the season goes on, need it from start of season though!

pretty sure wilsey the ports bloke that played wore 36,could be wrong though?? early he was quiet as he hasnt played much footy this year but improved as game went on, would love to have his services all season!

I was gonna say the same thing in regards to umps but there has been enough talk of them lately
like you said though, they made the same calls all day which meant the players could at least adjust to them and they knew what to expect. We had the wog looking one last week at kilburn and I thought he wasnt to bad then either.

the umpiring on the weekend imo was by far the best we have had all year, very consistant all day.
the goal that put PAOC in front late in the last quarter was a pretty handy goal of 1 step 45 m on the boundary under the pump deflated our spirits, would have been a cracker of a game to watch and has has proved how good the standard of footy can be when umpires are good

I only saw the first quarter and a bit of our game on the weekend. We started very well, especially with a new look forward line with Coppins, McAdam and Williams all out. It was a typical Portland vs PAOC clash from what i saw - PAOC were very skilled and clean when they were allowed to be, and we tried to turn it into a bash-and-crash affair, pressuring them at every chance. PAOC's forward line looked more dangerous from what i saw, and to be honest, i was surprised when i got a score update from Fisty and we were up in the last quarter.

I know it was a loss, but i would think if we play footy like that every week, we would win more than we lose.

Iggies this week, massive game in the context of our season.

well i was at the smosh game on the weekend. Old iggies were in total control during the 2nd qtr, did not finish the job and in the last 5min beforer half time smosh took advantage. Smosh in the 3rd qtr played a very good brand of footy and out ran old iggies. Old iggies looked to have a few out, but from what i sore so did smosh. Maybe old iggies are no as good as i thought they would be.

portland have disapointed me. its still early but i was expecting big things from thunder this year. they will need to get a move on.

and what is the latest on kilburn. some heavy losses early then last 2 weeks have not been far off. new players to the club????
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

caughed a glimpse of the pportland game saturday, i think late in the season they will be very dangerous. I noticed a few new faces from the last years team and by the time they gel i think there definatley finals contenders. think the bug bloke up forward apparantly kiking 4 should concrete his place making it very hard for young macadam to get back in the side, think it will be definatly a runny nose hell regret having ..

thats Damon Mcculloch
very capable footy player, I really liked the look of him up forward on the weekend
throw in depalm to sneak some goals and coppo to lead up the ground and things are looking better.
To a degree your right with the gelling together but it shouldnt take this long, time for the boys to start playing some good quality footy
