was told it was a committee descision, coach didn't want to but was over rided. hope the Chics get over this setback.[ and get the kudos they deserve for getting SAAFL out of the poo because Scotch didn't have the balls to go up ]

simple really. played shit house v flinders park and then we were just a touch down v broadies and did not take our chances. next game after the bye will tell a fair tale i reckon.with the week off.the return of louie martin, jed pfieffer, swaine acklund and a good break to get over all niggles should see the boys cherry ripe to make amenz. having said that athlestone at athlestone is a tough gig and should tell the tale of what we are all about in 09.

Not necessarily NM, although that's the way it's been over the past two years..

I remember going back to 2001/02ish, where they went into the break without a loss and then lost the next 5 or so.

I'm guessing that might happen here, except maybe not losing that many in a row.

Moz,
Correct in part, however the GCFC still raises it's own money with sponsorship, canteen, bbq, functions etc as the Community Club is not a "bottomless pit" contrary to popular opinion. A lot of members couldn't care two hoots about footy, just as long as they can get $3.00 pints 8 days a week. Membership is only $22.00 pa so it's not costing a lot to join up and their expectations defy logic most of the time.
Moz you are spot on, The Community Club could not exist without football but the footy club would exist without the Community Club, allbeit on a different scale.
Without doubt if you look at the active versus inactive side of the argument with footy versus the others, footy wins "hands down"!

Was there a rise in playing subs after the abolishment or something similar that may have made it less financially inviting (minor I know but every dollar is precious) to play at Uni? I think I've even heard once it from someone at UNI.

there was an increase in subs once student unionism became voluntary due to the insurance levies no longer being paid - increase was to cover this cost. some players may have considered this to be an impost as a student but most are happy to have income and medical cover reasonably cheaply.
uni's standard tends to shift more due to influx and influences of friend networks and the occasional relationship with several saafl clubs through ex-players/coaches.

riverside were caught in an area with slowing population and too many clubs while greenacres have been playing mid grades for many years now.
the above statement is just the other side of ridiculous in my opinion

I have seen a financial report from the AUFC - and it clearly showed "funding" came from Grounds Maintenance - Both State and Federal Money (in the range of $60K combined) - but the grounds were maintained by the University anyway - so with some clever accounting it all looks good! (what would you expect from such clever people) - and I have been told by a person heavily involved that since the abolition of Compulsory Union Fees - the AUFC started to suffer....

And I know of players getting good opportunities to study at AU - maybe a good way to pay off fees? - and others being offered $400 per game to play elsewhere (in the late 80's) but knocked it back....mmmmm....why?

So sick of you Uni people claiming to be so self righteous - you were into the paying of players as much as any of the other culprits - now you can't pay - well....you're paying the price.

Get off your high horses.....

uni fees can only be mitigated by scholarships - there are only a few sporting scholarships generally reserved for olympic rowers/athletes and other international standard athletes.
university entry standards are worked out between satac/uni administration who, incidentally, are much more worried about research standards than local sporting competitions hence the relationship between industry and university.

funding was strange during the 80's/90's when the club was granted money from the various funding sources which then in turn went back into the university through the payment of grounds maintenance fees. funding is now streamlined so that ground maintenance is mainly directly funded by the university.

i know people who left uni a grades because they were going to be paid $50/$100 in country football in the late 80's/early 90's, and having been involved since 1987 at a social, playing and committee level know that no paying goes on or has gone on during my 22 years involvement. if you're so sure, name names.

I believe its fallen on feaf ears as the club wants to wait til the end of the year before announcing their coach.
Its amazing half these people that made the decision earlier on ( to go up to Div2 ) have jumped ship after not listening to Ocka in the first place. ( for those that don't know he didn't want to go up )
My mail is if he's not re-appointed quickly it will be by by Kilburn & he'll be off seeking a job elsewhere.

Talk around the grapevine is this is occonnors last year of coaching but that wouldn't be the first time.

He has more last years than johnny farnham.

Pembroke OS v Kilburn
Athelstone v Payneham NU
Adelaide University v PHOS Camden
Broadview v Eastern Park
Flinders Park v Seaton Ramblers

Pretty important week with the bottom four playing and the top 6 playing. Seaton need a win to stay in touch and out of the other end. Any loss to Kilburn could create problems for sides trying to stay up. At the other end it's a chance to put a gap in for the top 3 or keep everything even. Should be a good week of footy.

tips for rd 9
pembroke vs kilburn- pembroke by at least 15 goals.
athelstone vs payneham- athelstone starting to put it together now, will win by 4 goals.
broadview vs eastern park- game of the round both teams have some fantastic ball winners eastern parks craig taylor is a super star along with gatto, wilson, hamilton, but broadies have there fair shair of talent grocke, squrie and co, this will be a great game of footy to watch demons by 2 goals.
adelaide uni vs phos- phos in a close one to win by 2 goals.
flinders vs seaton- seaton lose this they could be in real trouble of playing div 3 footy next year flinders have improved some what in the last few weeks and will be to good for a struggling seaton, flinders by 8 goals.

good luck to all teams.

Pembroke v Kilburn- Easy 60+
Athelstone v Payenham- Athelstone tough at home but if Payenham are a top 2 side they'll win. 11-20
Broadview v Eastern Pk - The Tigers at home will give the Parks their first loss for a while. 21-30
Adel Uni v PHOS- Phos a far better side than Uni & will win 21-30.
Flinders Pk v Seaton- Seaton are in real trouble & after Sat's game there will be alot of question asked as to why they have fallen away after alot of hype early in the year. 31-40 :(

Athelstone v Payenham - who knows who will turn up on the day. PNU have let me down recently
Broadview v Eastern Pk - If I wasn't going to Greenacres to do an interview, then Pembroke to watch Shrek get beaten up, and then a 50th for my best mate by 5pm, I'd venture out here. What a game......DRAW
Adel Uni v PHOS - PHOS by a few, but will need to bring their A game and wont be in front all day
Flinders Pk v Seaton - FNose but FP at home.
