i moved from the riverland at the end of school in '04 and since moving to town i have followed chris too, but that's been 7 years and three clubs, Wingfield, Gepps and Ovingham i actually trained with the As and Bs at gepps before i reinjured myself (not that i would've played A grade there) and played in the Cs. i also played under brodie jessup (a very interesting man.....) at wingfield for a year, so i would be one of the touted 'gypsies' but i'm sure there are many worse out there than that...
Circumstances are the reason we've left clubs, mostly involving Chris and the treatment he has and we have been subjected to (that could open a big can of worms itself) but i just wanna play footy and i'm playin with a group of mates who have become pretty tight over the years.
I am not talking to you for 3 minutes because you punched me in the head and it hurt and that was not okay for you to do

he doesn't look like a coaches bunghole to start, and it's more about his ability to gather blokes... he's got a few mates (and according to everyone on here a lot of enemies too) that stick together... the end of the day he doesn't wanna coach anymore...

J041, That sir is "Classic"

It's an interesting thought about Mr Newman, how did he get the "ability to gather blokes"? What is his secret to galvanising a lot of club's C graders into following him like James Manson got his cult to follow?

There's got to be something more to this than his ability as a C grade footy coach, an uncanny knack of doing what?

Help us to unlock the secret! How do we join his Fan club?

Probably 3 in 3 years, Gepps Cross, Wingfield & Ovingham's not a bad starting point.

Try 4 in 4 years Broadview 05, Gepps Cross 06, Wingfield 07 & Ovingham 08
2017, 2019 & 2020 PREMIERS
RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

i have played under Chris. he is a good coach who knows his stuff, he is hard nosed, passionate and stubborn! He brings the best out of his players, its simple step up or p**s off! this is why guys follow him, he is brutally honest and straight forward, you know where you stand, and he manages to bring out the best in blokes..

Wingfield burnt their own bridges, couldnt manage their trouble makers, look at the sides, chris coached the b grade and encouraged the boys to step up to a grade, boys which in the end won them the flag, then he copped abuse uncalled for!!

Gepps Cross wanted nothing to do with the "gypsies" back in the day, shunned them and made them feel unwelcome! These blokes brought records, membership, players and a flag to the club..

again this is very controversial.... many sides to the story and i'm not saying mine is total truth, just what i have experienced... so don't get your knickers in a knot people...
For me, i was at wingies for a year (04) and it's not a nice scene to be in, i was just there to play footy, the next year we went to Gepps, i was originally training to play in the magoos until one day at training i reinjured the knee i did in the finals campaign the year before which meant i played C's and played the last 2-3 games in the magoos when i got my knee right, the problem they had was that the C's were put into the away changerooms and it felt like we were a seperate club altogether because there was almost a 'them and us' feel about it. In 06 i did get invited to the camp they did anually but i have other commitments and couldn't make it, after that i wasn't even invited to train with them all year... then after winning the GF the club did nothing for us and we had to organise our own team thing at a local pub. Now i don't know all that went on between Chris and the committee so i can't comment on that. the next year we went out to wingies under the impression it had changed... there's an analagy about leopards and spots for right here, we were foolish to think it was true. anyway we played there for a year and after the grand final win one of the clubmen who didn't train for half the year and expected to get poicked for the GF had far too many to drink and punched Chris from behind, i think he either broke or fractured his jaw... anyway, we didn't go back there and the ovingham job came up for Chris and we were happy to leave there. now we're at Ovingham and quite happy, although there are many unhappy people all around.

we will have two sides this year and we will do well. i hope that people can turn their attitudes around and see that it's not all that it's cracked up to be. we're not that bad bunch of blokes that we get painted out to be... but i know at the end of the day people are influenced by others and again my side of the story isn't the whole story, but the past is the past and Ovingham will survive and thrive in years to come...

Nuggety Goodness you should not have to be defending your team because they are attempting to improve themselves. Ovingham should be congratulated in that they are not going to sit in C grade and look for cheap wins but field two sides and give more players a game.

Maybe some of your detractors are spending too much time on the computer when they themselves should get out there and be involved in a more practical way.
