Had a kick with the Blacks from 1979 to early 90's, with most in the A's. Never got a cent. Never knew anyone who got a cent. In my case, I knocked back $100-150 a game to go play in the SFL. You can't beat having a dob with your mates!

riverside were caught in an area with slowing population and too many clubs while greenacres have been playing mid grades for many years now.
the above statement is just the other side of ridiculous in my opinion

I have seen a financial report from the AUFC - and it clearly showed "funding" came from Grounds Maintenance - Both State and Federal Money (in the range of $60K combined) - but the grounds were maintained by the University anyway - so with some clever accounting it all looks good! (what would you expect from such clever people) - and I have been told by a person heavily involved that since the abolition of Compulsory Union Fees - the AUFC started to suffer....

And I know of players getting good opportunities to study at AU - maybe a good way to pay off fees? - and others being offered $400 per game to play elsewhere (in the late 80's) but knocked it back....mmmmm....why?

So sick of you Uni people claiming to be so self righteous - you were into the paying of players as much as any of the other culprits - now you can't pay - well....you're paying the price.

Get off your high horses.....

uni fees can only be mitigated by scholarships - there are only a few sporting scholarships generally reserved for olympic rowers/athletes and other international standard athletes.
university entry standards are worked out between satac/uni administration who, incidentally, are much more worried about research standards than local sporting competitions hence the relationship between industry and university.

funding was strange during the 80's/90's when the club was granted money from the various funding sources which then in turn went back into the university through the payment of grounds maintenance fees. funding is now streamlined so that ground maintenance is mainly directly funded by the university.

i know people who left uni a grades because they were going to be paid $50/$100 in country football in the late 80's/early 90's, and having been involved since 1987 at a social, playing and committee level know that no paying goes on or has gone on during my 22 years involvement. if you're so sure, name names.

I saw the 1st half of the Broadview v EP game. The tigers must have pulled a rabbit out of their ar$e in the second half coz they were dead set aweful in the first half.

I'll say it again, there are some players out there that need to realise they are no shoe in just because they have a "big" name. But, as I said.......I only saw the first half.

EP's backline was awesome, and Craig Taylor playing on the ball, was everywhere - good skills and wants to play and win.

I heard the funniest comment, that I've heard for a very long time, on the field today:

Shrek to the big No 4 Lewis in the last quarter

"You''re gonna $hit yourself when you play at Kilburn"

Shrek baby - he'd have to eat a truckload of off prawns and do a month of pelicaning to $hit himself at Kilburn with what you brought to the oval today.

5|5 not a bad result.
Seaton proved today they will struggle to hold there place in Div2, they have alot of work to do & it will be dissapointing to see them go from Div1 to Div3 in 2 years.
What can be done to improve them?

I snuck out there tuesday night for a look & training looked pretty good with Paul Marshall in charge.
He gave them a pretty solid session, its something they need more often ( hard competitive work )
Hodges took em a few weeks ago for a night & i heard he was shocked at how bad their skill level was, even under no pressure balls wern't hitting targets, i suppose its understandable when alot of you senior players don't train consistantly, you need these senior players out there helping these younger blokes out with their skills.
It makes me question why they are still first to be selected though.
Wheres the policy you don't train you play Bs? ( thats gone out the door aswell as alot of other team rules )
I'm surprised Ashley Place aint sniffing around for an A grade game knowing the delema the club is currently in & him not playing a single A grade game since going to Henley.

good to see hodges out there maybe it could become more permanant think it could only be good going forward for this club who are every chance to be playing div 3 footy next year he would surely be a coach that could turn this side around and get them back up the divisions
what do you think no mercy ;)

Fellow posters I have missed your wonderfull insights into Footy whilst being away. No MERCY which ever one of the two of you who are currently using that moniker I was not one to jump ship on the Ocker thing.
Point 1 Ocker agreed with giving Div2 ago, fact
Point 2 Ocker to his credit DID want to continue at Kilburn both this year AND next training kids.
Point 3 Kilburn wouldn't make an early call on next years Coach at this stage, Club decision
Point 4 Ocker disappointingly chose to resign due to that fact.
Not only do i sponsor the Club I was best man at Ockers wedding so No Mercy don't talk shjt about me jumping off board. And which ever of you two No Mercies wrote this crap get your facts right and don't predjudice a great and long friendship something both of you don't seem to have.
Bomber did a good job on the weekend and the boys played Ok. Kilburn will be competitive through the year.

saw phos v uni on saturday - was a good game with both sides going hard at the ball - and, both sides with players out.
phos are very well drilled with the fitness and discipline to push both ways on the ground - uni had the majority of the ball in the second half but couldn't break the defensive wall through a mixture of bombing the ball and great defensive work from phos.
it made me think that the overall standard of amateur football has improved over the years throughout all the grades right down to c6.
always forgive your enemies...nothing annoys them so much

Hmmmmm what to say.....

Much better side in the first half and put ourselves in a good position at half time. Needed to come out and kick away with the wind but didn't do it and left Broadies in with a sniff at 3/4 time. First half of the last quarter we got smashed out of the middle. 6 odd straight goals to Broadies was enough. Came back at them but just fell short. Very good game in all and Broadies the only side that have come close to us fitness wise this year. IMHO we are a better side but time will tell.

No surpises elsewhere except for maybe the margin in the flinders seaton game. Think you might see a different ep side this week very keen to make amends....some good news at the club this week has the boys tails up....
Harsh but fair.....
