Hopefully the SAAFL can make a decision before the end of the year so the clubs have time to put plans in place!

my understanding was all affiliated leagues had a say or vote on it.

The reason that the SANFL League clubs are getting rid of the two grades and the VFL did it in the early 90's, is essentialy the costs associated with having the two grades. With so many clubs - and in some cases so many clubs, all within striking distance of each other, all seeking the same Sponsorship and financial dollar to keep their clubs afloat how could the SAAFL even have thought about doing it. The cost of ovals, jumpers, equipment, umpires, footballs, coaches, etc, etc, etc just makes it cost prohibitive. Every other League in the country gets rid of the U17 & U19 concept and the Amateur League decision makers want to take it on board. MAKES LESS THAN NO SENSE but what else could we expect. Surely after finishing Under 18 Football and being 19, the following season any
young lad is capable both mentally and physically to play against men.

For any club in the SAAFL in the wishing to nominate a 17's team this must be done ASAP!
Please contact Brenton McDonnell from the SAAFL by Email brenton@saafl.asn.au before the leagues AGM on Monday the 1st of December as this is the day a decision will be made on weather they will run a U/17's Competition in '09???
The league will be keeping both U/18's Competition for season '09 & the U/17's Competition is an extra which 8 clubs have nominated but the league needs 10 teams to conside running this so if your club is interested can they PLEASE GET YOUR CLUBS NOMINATION IN ASAP otherwise there will be alot of young fellas who will miss out on playing footy next year!!!
FITZROY! MODBURY! PANEHAM NORWOOD UNITED! PHOS CAMDEN!
INGLE FARM! PARALOWIE! HECTAVILLE! TEA TREE GULLY!

As amateur clubs, the aim is to try and produce as many SANFL/ AFL players as possible.

So what do you do with the 16 or so 17's aceman, yeah some would play 18's but that still leaves lets say 35 lads wanting a game with 25 spots open if you just field the one team.
