That may be so but playing with old footies, no boots and hessian bags for jumpers was a long time ago.

What do you reckon in your infinite wisdom is a reasonable amount for subs?

For $100 you can almost pay 1 SAAFL A Grade Umpire for 1 game

or

Buy 1 new Sherrin

or

Buy 3 new football jumpers

or

Pay 1 Trainer for 1 week.

DO you still think $100 per player is going to cut it????

Most clubs dont get an extra $6k every week from running a carpark. I dare say thats why Seaton can charge so little, if that is the case.

Yet they can afford to piss it up over a bar. Gimme a break. Pay $10 a week off during pre-season and you'll be financial by Round 1.

I think $150 is pretty fair for a seasons subs, making it cheaper if you pay before start of season or if the player is at uni or a apprentice!
The club should be getting sponsors to help make it easier for the player though
otherwise B graders will be paying to have blokes on $300 a week, and personally I dont think its fair on the blokes that just want to have a social kick and catch!
remember a club isnt a business it is an organisation!
if the club finishes the season and they arent in debt then I think they should look at it as a good season!
get on board the thunder train!!!

if they are pissing it over the bar then technicly they are giviing the club money anyways!
Im not saying it is right to not pay subs. But that would be a blokes argument that isnt paying his subs!!

Fisty, sorry to disagree but most footy clubs are a 'business' nowadays with the amount of money that's turned over.
When you are paying the SAAFL what they require plus umpires plus equipment plus medical plus players plus jumpers, socks, shorts, trainers, trophies etc. you may be surprised at what the amount your club turn over is. Yes, you recoup some of this money and I do agree that if you finish at break even you've done well.
A 'rule of thumb' amount to put a team on the park in Div 1,2 or 3 is around $220 per player

I meant more of it not being a business on the revnue side of things!
I dont know the fine points of running a club
but I know it would take a shit load of time and money to do so!!

Sponsors are getting harder and harder to find, they no longer have disposable income to donate to footy clubs unless they receive some good reciprocal business, if you come to rely on sponsors to keep you solvent you're heading in the wrong direction. When you get a Bianco who has pulled all sponsorship of any form except Adel United you know things are tight.

Jointman, this amount is not payment to player, it's an estimated cost incurred to put a player on the oval by the time all expenses are taken into account.

I think Ace was referring to thae fact that on average it costs approx $220 per player per game to field a team, not physically paying individual players $200 per game
