What then do you hope to achieve by going on about it in this forum except to further ostracise your club from the SAAFL? I'm sure your fellow committee members would be most pleased with you airing your dirty laundry on here.

Rotter havn't aired any dirty laundry these are my own personal views I believe I have that right under Freedom of the Press

No not at all but the Scotch/Geoff Heard/Div 2 thing has been somewhat exhausted.

This has been done to death, let's see if the SAAFL has the balls to sit Heard back on his golden ring!

The SANFL will have approximately 5 full panels of umpires surplus to requirements.

The theory of the umpiring director is to use all of these panels in one grade apparentley this will be Div 3.

My question is if these umpires are capable of umpiring higher divs or for that matter not up to Div 3 wouldn't it be better to let the natural selection process take its course.

Re reading it yes it was a bit obtuse hope this clears it up.

Ah okay - I hear you - interesting that they have surplus - thought they would have pushed them around country leagues etc - and why Div 3? - if they are so good to be on a SANFL panel - wouldn't you push them up? - as you said - they are trying to be as good as they can - but I'm guessing they are quite young and possibly, don't want the pressure of A2.

Thanks for clearing it up.

The umpires can move up from Div 3, its just a starting point for them. it will be consisted of blokes that did under 17s last year that arent good enough to be considered for the under 18s comp this year. Losing a grade at SANFL level left about 15 umpires without anywhere to umpire. It will be also have people from the Independent Schools Panel that were probably going to move into the under 17s this season.

If they are good enough they can either be recalled to umpiring the 18s or they can move up through the amatuer league. Its a good chance to give some younger umpires a chance to umpire men which has been a flaw of the system for years. They use to go from independent schools to 17s to 19s to reserves and that'd be the first time they'd umpire men which is a huge step up from umpiring junior footy.

Actually....I'd been at the pub most of the night so, can you tell me what I was on about??

I think it was because Edwardstown leaving was the cause of the delay, but who knows what I was dribbling on about

No, (no blame), I just thought we shouldn't bag Townies too much, maybe the Southern League IS run better than SAAFL. I don't know I've only played Amateurs.....

The SFL is somewhat of a joke in my eyes, I used to look forward to reading the Sunday Mail to see how many 50+ goal victories there were.
