We've been giving out beer tickets for years and it actually happens more often than not.

SHOCs this year have had free beer and snags to both clubs after the game at the Senior School. Most clubs have had a good presence there.

At Eastern Park we put a couple of cartons on in the changerooms so the supporters and opposition can come in for a beer. Few boys from Seaton came in which was great as did the boys from Kilburn. Sometimes we dont leave the chagerooms till 7 o'clock. Gold!! Has been a good initiative.

We always try and stick around at oppositions clubs for a beer, even if it's four or five of us that do it. Some lads are on their P's and/or are under the thumb and cant do it.

I try to go in for a beer after every game but the clubs with their post match at pubs do make it difficult. You get in the car and might as well keep going if you've already had a couple at the game

I like the idea of an esky outside the changerooms after the game for both teams, and will suggest it after this weeks match

I know Charlie goes into the oppositions club room after every away game, win, lose or draw which I think is great. Noticed a lot of Rosewater blokes in our bar after we pipped em earlier in the year which showed a lot of character. Must say I enjoyed having a few cans at Plympton last week!

Playing at PHOS a few years ago most of the boys wanted to leave so we collected the tickets so they didnt go to waste, a few of us ended up staying half the night, having tea there and watching the footy with some of your boys!!! We try to stay for a few and definately notice when no one from other sides pops in for one.

When I was involved at Port District, the coaching staff and most players would have a beer, time permitting, with the opposition after the game.

SHOC were the most hospitable, to the point of giving you roadies, out of their esky for the long drive back to Largs from Brighton Road. Which, when you would hit the Crows traffic on Taps Road, came in very handy. This proves that you dont need a lavish clubroom to get together afterwards. Thanks Bomber!

Other honourable mentions to the lads at ROC's (the Symes and Watkins comedy hour), Macca at PNU and the Goody Saints hierachy always made you feel welcome. Best canteen in the league!!

That's the beauty of the SAAFL. Get together, have an amber ale and enjoy the company.

WIN, LOSE OR DRAW!

Its a bloody south aussie tradition to stick around for a beer after the game!
In previous years we have nominated at least 3 players to stick around to have a beer after!
I think it shows great character for clubs to do this.
I will make one point though, this year we have had a lot of clubs hang around for a beer after. Salisbury West had at least 10 players come in the other week, North Haven lads normally hang around also, haven't seen alot of college sides hang around though??? Is this because they are not used of the tradition as they have no club rooms to do it in?

i agree that it's an important thing to do. gives the oppostion a chance to say a quick gday to the guy that he battled and may have sledged during the day. a good example would be in the sanfl with the gowans boys. on the field they would be 2 of the most hated blokes in the legue. but off the ground they would probably be 2 of the friendliest and best dudes goin around. same goes for saafl. there are plenty of guys that aren't too liked by opposition clubs on the field, and going into the clubs for a beer after the game for a quick chat can paint a lot more accurate picture of the type of bloke he really is.
and it's always good when a club does give the opposition free tickets after the game. seaton is one that have been good for this in my experiences.

Could be a biased decision but Plymptons $3.50 tinny bar is a smash hit with both home and away supporters. Great selection of beers and spirits and a real cheap pric. Can't ask for much more.

Let's face it, the 'posh' colleges like PAC, Saints and Pembroke wouldn't want other clubs in their clubrooms even if they did have any.

In c1 its been quite good - we've stuck around at pertaringa (ttg), port districts who put on beers for us, goodwood, gepps cross, modbury - pretty much anywhere where the bar was open. weirdly enough at goodwood we were the only folk from the game in the bar.
we tend to throw on beers/bbq at park 10 for those playing there - teams not minding that this year as they've been beating us regularly.
we always have some stone's green ginger goodness to share.

Glacks has made it a team rule to have a drink in the oppositions clubrooms after every game, there has only been 2 occasions when the other team hasnt come in to ours

We played Townies on the weekend and there were a few of their players that stuck around and had a beer or two...so did the umpires...

I learned from playing cricket that you should always hang around after a game if possible and ahve a drink. I remember one game of cricket i stayed at North Haven and ended up leaving at 3am... You learn to respect your opposition and you make friends for life.

Plympton welcomes all opposition, and the cheap beers go alright!

It's a fair point because at GG we have never had the option of having the rooms to have beers in straight away after the game so for the younger players at our club it's not an ingrained thought for them. Us older heads have done it in years gone by so still understand the importance of it so I look forward to a beer at Pooraka this Satdee !!
