Which leads me to the question, what's a good coach worth and what constitutes a good coach?
What attributes does a person need to substantiate his value or coaching worth?

Anyone got any thoughts on this rather than TT's carbon footprint. He's even got a "rabbit proof fence" to keep you out Jimmy!

OE, I've got an idea on what Div 1 & 2 coaches are worth and what they need to bring, but am interested in lower grades because of what I was told the other night.
Blokes applying for gigs in lower divisions and asking for up to $12K, who's kidding who?

they dont get paid enough - our coach dropped a whole seasons pay at the races yesterday..

from my limited knowledge $12k would be on the high side - i'd say the average is more like $7-8k in divs 5 - 7

12k seems a bit rich, I suppose what a coach in the lower grades needs to try and do is have a plan for the club and also try and attract players as that is the hardest thing to do, alot of players want to play at the highest level which is not divs 5,6,7 also country footy with the dollars makes it very tough. So to answer your question.

Have a long term plan, recruiting, aswell is the obvious day to day planning and running of the football side

i think clubs also look at the financial return that certain coaches would bring, as well as their coaching and people skills, ie sponsorship. certain high profile coaches attract a lot more sponsors, players, and lift the overall profile of the club. this has proved to be quite successful with some clubs in the long term. look at clubs such as PNU (gary macintosh), gaza (andrew jarman), CBCOC (darren jarman). they all bought their own coaching skills, as well as lifting the profile and value of the club as a whole. well, cbcoc is only in the early stages, but you can already see the benefits.
so in saying that, i think a good coach attracts a certain price, then extra for the extra financials the club can gain through using their profile to boost the clubs.

Realistic is what I am, not stupid! Don't comeback with the "that's debatable" conspiracy either! ;)
No, coaches are no different to players, some rate themselves too highly and price themselves out of jobs, simple really and our coach gets paid exactly his worth and does a bloody good job too but $8-$12K for Div 5 to 7? I might take it on again if that's the case!

Might pay to find out what Div 7 clubs like Ovingham & North Pines can afford to pay which I reckon may well be at the bottom end of the scale. It would be a long way from your figures I think.

I guess it all depends on what the coach is expected to use the money for. We did not pay any where near the 7-8k mentioned.

well to put into perspective we didn't pay any of our coaches this year (long story as to why we had 3...) but for next year we are looking at some sponsorship deals to see what we CAN pay... at the same time it would be good to know what the 'going rate' is...

what i'd like to know is where we can find a good coach, so anyone who has had multiple applicants for their jobs, send the unsuccessful ones to us...
I am not talking to you for 3 minutes because you punched me in the head and it hurt and that was not okay for you to do

Well I my as well start us off.

A little birdy told me that St Pauls Old collegians may be changing their name to Mawson Lakes Football club!? Couldn't find on any other forum if this had been mentioned yet.

Did the little birdie read the div. 7 thread yesterday.

Geez, that is a bad start! I thought I had read through that forum, I must have missed it. Good move renaming themselves. Should get some good sponsorship from some of the Mawson Lakes businesses.
