If the SAAFL doesn't pull its finger out, more clubs will die.

Indeed it does. I just got off the phone with the President and he is organising a meet for tonight after training for the committee and senior playing group.zedman wrote:morell wrote:Very sad news indeed. Had some good (and not so good) hit outs with the Roos.

Every club is the responsibility of the league.Seagull wrote:morell wrote:Very sad news indeed. Had some good (and not so good) hit outs with the Roos.

Not sure this is any fault of the league.

Payment is unstoppable mate, hence why the Salary Cap was such a waste of time. It sounds good in theory, but you just can't police it.morell wrote:Every club is the responsibility of the league.Seagull wrote:morell wrote:Very sad news indeed. Had some good (and not so good) hit outs with the Roos.

This is ALL related to the current culture of financial reward for playing the game. Ban (and enforce consequences) on playing payments within the SAAFL and I am pretty confident both Smithfield and Paralowie would be fielding two teams in 2011.
Sure, a few blokes might not have as much money to piss down the drain on a Saturday night, but the game would be a lot healthier overall.

How many players are heading to the country because their local club no longer exists?Jabber wrote:Ban player payments and then all the talent will bugger off to the country = less players = less teams = less clubs...

What % do you think this method would constitute for player payments? 10%-20%?wristwatcher wrote:Completely agree. It cant be policed at amateur level. FOR INSTANCE ; If Joes Concrete chooses to give player X an envelope each week no-one really has to know![]()

So you want club calls to be increased by about $1000 per year so the league can spend $60-70k on an auditor to come around and check on the now lack of money your club will have due to the extra call fees?
Might want to rethink that one![]()

How silly of me to think the league may dip into it's very inflated bank account and fork out it's own funds for this....I apologise
