Wow wee, if that's true it's a great appointment. Payney is quality.

I wonder if he will be striving towards A grade success or sticking to current mantra of the A grade battling to avoid relegation whilst D grade win premierships. I still get a chuckle from the bloke who posted the statement "2015 Year of the Lion"

Payney is a great coach and an even better bloke. He has great ability to get the best out of blokes. I can almost guarantee he will gain the respect of his playing group and club instantly for the way he operates. I wish him nothing but success.

Couldn't agree with this anymore, he doesn't demand the respect of the playing group he just gets it by being the bloke he is..

Goodluck Payney, i'll be keeping a close eye on divvy 2 now.

At the Modbury sports club tonight for a meeting

Listening to their recruits from some footy people. Stanton back from Freeling and some ruckman called Gear from Pooraka plus others and also 4 or 5 from Gaza coming to play there. The locals seemed confident.

Geer was at Modbury before playing at Pooraka last season.

Don't believe Geer is locked in by any means, all the lads have chatted to him as he is a much loved bloke but he isn't sure if he will play at all at this stage, let alone come back.. do love the optimism of our supporters though, its a long off season for our Veranda regulars

Garth Van Ristell was one of the names mentioned given the DCM.

I wonder if he'll go back to Gullies.

We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

I have no issue with reducing payments but telling a bloke in November he will be playing 2s in April, or kicking people out(unless there is a behavioural issue) seems ridiculous.

Was informed he gave certain players the DCM because they had a penchant for the Mal Meningas and Charlie Sheen.

Then they're probably infinitely more entertaining than that sack Jarman is on MMM.

Didn't the council bail out the sports club last week for $30,000 so are players coming back for the love of the club?

The Sporting Club and Football club are run somewhat separately, we feed money into them for the upkeep of facilities etc. and the football club only gets a certain percentage of bar takings and the likes. I don't fully understand it all but if you are implying that we would use bail out money to pay for players I think you will find that cash went to the new veranda, major renovations downstairs including a new kitchen..

Stanton had made it clear that he missed Modbury and the lads a fair bit last season and I was always confident he would come back. One of the reasons we didn't retain him last season is because he didn't want to take money from the club to stay. I guess you need to be a part of the culture to fully understand it. Until then, feel free to make assumptions.
