if i were invloved at gepps, i'd get rid of a bloke like that. i understand the club wants to set a precedent for anyone signing with the club (and that is rightly so), but what they should do is offer to clear him to wherever it is he wants to go in exchange for some decent $$. and if the club still thinks he's worth that, they would happily pay it.
gepps should then use that money to buy in another decent recruit.

Lol you and others had a better view than the umps??
Didn't deserve....
What an absolute rubbish post.

Now now WLF, YL has had 30 years of experience in the game and his opinion matters more than anyone elses ( as quoted to me not long ago)

Only reason he kicked up about this in the first place is that he didn't have the div 1 medal winner in the team of the year after accusing the people who pick the offical league team of not having a clue. Oops

Maybe one could list who the umpires were in each of those 9 games

meanwhile i cant believe that an umpire has the capacity to observe who the most valuable player is on the ground. He/she is busy running 10km a game paying kicks blowing whistles ball ups all the usual whilst huffing and pudding with exhaustion and at the same time is observing the true influence on the game. Like as if. Its too much expectation on an ump.

The true judge is the old boy sitting under a shady tree who comes out every week and knows football like the back of his hand. Compare his votes to the umps and then see who wins the medal

for an ump its like running an olympic marathon and at the same time watching game of the day on foxtel. They just cannot be that super human

IMO

Marbles makes a good point in regard to the ump's not being the best judge on votes (simply as they are busy doing everything else) but is there a better option? Or should i say an option that is'nt going to be compromised by peoples opinions on others.

Everyone shows their points - but at the end of the day, if you were to put forward that proposal to the AFL you'd probably get laughed at.

Get the 15 media outlets at each Div 1 game to do it
Been done for a 100 years, not perfect but what we have

Club B&F carries more weight then the medal voted on by umpires IMHO

Most clubs get it right. The clubs b@f usually ends up the toughest player for opposition coaches to shut down. Just a thought.

Probably one of the most sensible ideas to be put forward to this stage.
But it won't stop cretins like Hughes at TV paying inflated money to players. This still doesn't overcome the problem of blokes shopping themselves around after 'signing an official contract' to play the following season. As I posted elsewhere, the CFL must align the clearance date with contractual obligations and then it may overcome some of the player prostitutes that exist in our game.

Not sure who the umpires were, but here's a breakdown of his votes:

Rd 2 - 3 votes - Not named in Top 5 - Lost to Broadview by 8pts
Rd 6 - 3 votes - Named 2nd Best - Lost to TTG by 27pts
Rd 7 - 1 vote - Named Best - Def Eastern Park by 2pts
Rd 11 - 3 votes - Named 2nd Best - Def Broadview by 30pts
Rd 15 - 3 votes - Named Best - Def TTG by 39pts
Rd 16 - 2 votes - Not named in Top 5 - Def PHOS by 16pts
Rd 18 - 1 vote - Named 5th Best - Def Eastern Park by 56pts

Only twice he got votes and wasn't named in Gepps' Top 5. He couldn't have been playing too badly if the club had him in their best 5 out of the 7 games he got votes in...

Postby Hellboy » Mon Feb 20, 2012 11:58 am

2 years ago, I was asked to be 1 of 4 people giving best players every week.
I was sacked after 5 matches because my picks were so out of balance with the other selectors.
I used a system where I did the best players every quarter
When it came around to the end of the year, I checked my score sheets with votes
Guess what, the votes nearly always went to the players that were my highest picks for the last quarter or two whereas I had players who dominated in the first half but only in low in the second half.
Under my system, they still accumulated enough points to get votes.

Getting 20 kicks means nothing if you turn the ball over all the time.
Kicking 5 goals means nothing to me. If you're a forward, you should be kicking at least 3 goals a week or handing off that many plus more. Thats your job
Having 5 goals kicked on you doesn't mean you had a bad day if the ball is delivered well to you.

What Im saying is BPs are so subjective.

Getting 3 votes when you lose by 27 points and only get 2nd best for your team doesnt sound right. Prob shouldn't have got any votes here. Also 3 votes in another losing game when not named in your clubs best 5 doesn't sound right either. Nor does the other 2 votes when not named in his clubs best 5. This totals 8 votes. Brings him much further down the list than number 1 doesn't it???

Nah mate, not at all. My original post was actually about him and his clearance. The medal is not what my original point was about at all. But since people kept addressing that particular point, I thought I would have to set them straight. That is all. Apologies if I have upset you EM.
