Mitcham had opportunites to put the game away in both the 2nd and 4th quarter but to Portlands credit they fought back to very last minute. Questions need to be asked about Portlands depth, as the season progresses and injuries occur are they going to be able to keep playing competitive football? Last year Portlands B grade was a very strong side, however this year both their Bs and Cs are struggling!
Fair call on our depth, it will be tested for sure. Probably 5-6 of our regular B graders from last year are now playing A grade each week, and think we have lost another 5-6 B graders who are just not playing anymore, or are not training at all, so dont get picked. Thats almost 2/3's of a side. We have a pretty strict rule on training and playing, so sometimes that means that we are left a bit short ability wise in the B's but at least i have blokes who want to be fair dinkum. We will be giving some U18's a taste of senior footy in the coming weeks too, already a handful are playing.
Hardy Hit, thought my CHB did a great job on you on the weekend by the way. Looked like it could get ugly early, but you were pretty quiet.
Quin had a good game considering its only his 2nd for the season. He's naturally superfit and he said after the game he didn't know what player it was who was meant to be standing him. From what it looked like he had a few players to compete against in the air, which loosened up other Mitcham players. Always good to have a player like Quin in ya foward line that attracts alot of attention! Hopefully he'll keep up the form and be playing in A's shortly!
Hardy Hit, I get the feeling you aren't fooling anyone speaking in third person. With 1.5 it's fair too say Quina was only 'kept quiet' by his own poor kicking. From what I saw, he had a lot of it.
In the A's, should have won the game twice, with poor goal kicking almost proving costly (T Cza had two shockers 20 meters out straight in front).
As for the umpring, didn't think it was that bad, but could certainly tell the young one was influenced by players calling for frees, but thought it went both ways. Don't forget - neither umpire managed to pick up on the fly kick to the throat on Flanigan in the last!!!
