Also of note: there is a moderate but distinct correlation (~ -0.3) between the numbers of players with a 5km radius of a club and their division.

Meaning, loosely, the more players you have within a 5km radius of your club, the higher the likelihood your division will be higher.

Correlation <> Causation

The only explanation I have for how they can continue to survive is Q's infinite charisma.

They must have a pretty strong tight knit community/club out there to continually put up two competitive sides without the budget or profile of other clubs.

A lot of spillover from the clubs west of Perseverance Rd/Haines Rd.
Only a small number actually come from Houghton or that side of the hills.

Heck, there are blokes who play for Modbury but live in Houghton (and vice versa).

The South Road strip has always been a bit bare for clubs, with Kenilworth being close at the South End, WOS at Glandore and maybe Fitzroy being closest to South Rd at the north end. Even back in the day, Kenilworth was located on Greenhill Road (?) Glandore has been used for a couple of clubs and not sure where St Doms or Renown Park were based (Cue @FOURTH ESTATE, he'll know)

But good work Morrell, no matter what anyone else says 8) Nothing like being blinded with facts

St Dominics played at the ground Blackfriars now call home & Renown Park were at Fitzroy's current ground.

I have them at -34.8314959, 138.48841. They're the second most western yellow dot at the top. Is that not where they're located?

Nah if he was factoring in future mergers im sure the Grand Junction RoyalDogHawks would have got a guernsey, but maybe he wasn't sure if the home ground would be on Eastern Parade or Newcastle St

Looking at the data div 7 as a group appears to be an outlier, is there any correlation if you removed it?

It would also be interesting to see it without the Old Colls sides as in some cases their Oval is no where near their school (Old Iggies). Also, the "catchment" for elite colleges such as PAC and SPOC is more a matter of family blood allegiance rather than geographical catchment.
