we are starting to play some pretty good footy. starting to play as a real team. when it comes together we are gonna be a pretty tough team to play.

bad luck bout ur knee too fist. my advice is to not worry bout ur weight for the next 12 months. then when its time to run again just go on the lemon detox diet.

Agree Chram88. Was a good win by the boys, especially with a few key outs and three first gamers. Was interesting to see S.White lining up in the forward pocket. One game out the side and couldnt get his spot back in the backlines. Very good signs for the Lions. Also good spread of goal kickers although the loss of E.Williams will hurt the forward structure but he will be a straight swap with I.Ralston coming back this week. ( handy replacement big sarge )

dominated maybe, but yes tomeo has come back to play with us. coached the grass hoppers and we have enticed him out. well be very handy for our young team. It was a good game of footy on Saturday. we got over the line with a good brand of footy. para hills had there chances after half time but just did not convert.

I dont think he dominated, IMO I dont think any player was a stand out over the 4 quarters. No 11 Fraser was the go to man early in the game for SMOSH but his influence waned in the second half. Hard enough to pick our own best players so I wait with interest to see the umpires votes. On the umpires we had a young lad do the "A" grade and thought he acquitted himself quite well. That was one of our worst performances for a couple of years, yes some credit must go to SMOSH, but I believe we were our own worst enemy. Hanson, Flynn 1 goal each but what was more disturbing was the fact that our entire forward line took only 5 marks for the game inside 50. Flynn took 11 by himself last week, so we will improve dramaticly on that effort.

You must have plenty of money down there at Bartley Tce. its the only reason that I can come up with for having very poor catering on Saturday (or is it a case of no one putting their hand up?). Triple header plus a college game, so there were people there from 8.30am. No BBQ, canteen didnt open until the start of the "B" grade game and when it did the food (pies, pasties & sausage rolls only) was cold and the drinks were warm, tried to get a coffee and they had no milk. I dont know about other clubs but the catering on a Saturday is a major part of our clubs finances. Para Hills would take well over $2000 for a triple header just in food and drinks alone, not including alcohol. This Sat home triple header with Salisbury we are budgeting for conservitively $3000, and with having our juniors involved (mini league game at 1/2 time of the "A"s) could take well over $4000. Do other clubs look to maximise their catering facilities?

I dunno what we take over a day in our canteen but i would say it would be at least $1500. probably more!
I would say we have probs one of the best if not the best canteens in the amatuer league!
So important for a clubs survival and sometimes we take advantage of what we have and what the girls in there do for us. Not only on a saturday but a thurs night after training and tuesday night for soup.

not having a dig at SMOSH cause I think they are a great club
but since I can remember they have always not had a good canteen!

yeah lol ;)
and I had heard how bad the B grade coach was :D

good to see the players are made to work behind there! a bbq would probs be a better way to get the injured guys working, that way food will be hot cause they have to cook it and they can have beers on ice to sell and have a few themselves while working!!

people will always bring booze to games, i dont think it is a big problem as long as they sit away from the club or where beers are sold!!

Agreed but unfortunately we have no control over non members, same crowd (about 6) do the same at home games. Good to see that 14 "A" grade players, coaching staff and a few supporters had a beer in the club after the game. Very dissappointed with the result but good to see the club making an effort to socialise after the game.

Dont know what you mean by this comment, "district or club like PH or Portland" We as a club would kill to have the facilities that you have. I have heard of clubs leasing out their catering facilities maybe thats a line you could go down. We have been very lucky over the past few years with our canteen "ladies" they do a fantastic job, unpaid, the type of people every club wishes to have, invaluable and probably not recognised enough for the work they do. We are in a fortunate situation in that we have 9 junior teams and we involve the juniors and senior sides of the club, this in turn gets more parents involved in all aspects of the club.

It wasnt the last 5 minutes, it was the last 90 seconds, but i did disagree with it. You are correct AFL footballers cant do it, so its a big ask for Div 3 footballers to do it.
Very unlucky to lose, but they need to get over it quickly and look at SMOSH this week. They need to win one of these games to have a crack at staying in Div 3.
They are good enough to stay in that grade.

Spot on Slots, it was only the last minute or so. The only directive given from the coaching staff was to tough it out and hold on - and that was being yelled out from the sidelines !!!

I applaude our guys for trying to win the game by keeping it off Walkies, but as already said, very tough thing to do. Even harder on our small ground as well. At the end of the day, it didn't work but we won't die wondering.

Not sure how i rate Walkies. Very suspect to hard, contested footy. PH, SMOSH and SPOC all better than them, IMO. Mitcham, Scotch and Woody South not far off on their days either. Obviously this is only gauged from games i have witnessed though.

With the game being a little different than back then. Yes i said its different (i was told that i was trying to be like Denis Cometti last time i said that) Slots, Felch do you think Smosh are better than what we faced the first year we went up into Div3? We had IMO (which i will probly be shot down in flames for saying so) a better side looking back at it by way of experience. Smosh do look quicker and alot fitter than back then. So it may an easy answer. Maybe Schimmer you could give us your oppinion? Ormand Allen and Kluzec were around back then weren't they. I know its hard to make a comparison but was just sitting here reading the posts trying to think back to what we did different back then to now. I like everyone else in the club are getting tired of the unlucky streak were in. It may not be any part of luck but hey when your not winning you look at every shade of grey possible.

Sorry if this gets you upset in anyway slots. ;)

we have picked up pace since we last played you guys in div 3. Had a good group come out from the school. and when you lose a kluzek and a almond allen off course you will look faster. I also believe that this years pre season was solid and yes we are fitter then years gone past.

it was the longest 90 seconds ever, what instrctions do u give if your up by a point with a minute or so to go if you were a coach?

I think you started about it the right way by chipping the ball down the boundary line. I would have tried to have all your marking targets, Granlese, Cunningham and Coppo 50m down the line and kicked to centre wing to a marking contest there. With those 3 blokes there i doubt Walkerville would have marked the ball, and you would have been about 80m from goal.

Just so you know Piccachu this is how we played defensive football, prior to about 2005 when the AFL introduced 'keepings off'.

Marbles you dont upset me, i just scratch my head sometimes with some of the things you say.
I havent seen SMOSH this year so i cant comment, i know when we last played them they were a fair bit infront of us as a side.
The Portland side is alot different now though, would have loved to have Laslett and Wareing in our side back then.

On last weeks performance Portland are a chance this week.
