thats what they tell me..they have a few stamps on their passports though..if its the group from blackwood/aldinga/onkas you are talking about..they dont come for free either catch..but always good to get new players i guess :)

But what do you do Z we've been trying to grow our own and produced some rippers thru the Juniors over the years, only to have them go, with our blessing to the SANFL and then they're told go back to a higher SAAFL club.

For example you have them for 10 years, from under 8's they stick right thru, then go to the SANFL play 18's and after a year or two, can't get a Reserves game so their told don't go back to your Div 6 Home Club, go to a Div 2 or Div 1 club near by.

So is the only other option to get a band of mercenaries? At least they'll turn up for the fringe benefits, may get you up a grade or two then your a chance of hanging on to your recycled SANFL prodogies......it's a tough balance!

Perhaps the points system might help balance this out, if they come back to junior club then 0 points else 3 points (although I cant find mention of the points for a player who played a season of Under 18s and no reserves at a SANFL club)

you make sure your kids are totally happy ..and then you pray they stay..and return after any sanfl duties

i doubt they will take the club any more than 1 grade possibly, no way 2 grades..they arent guns..just guys who move from club to club and the clubs left in their wake have had no success at all..so is that the barometer we use for confirmed previous success? :)

i have seen a lot of players from "div 1 SFL or GSFL or hills"..and they think div 5-6 will be a cakewalk because they played "div 1" somewhere..if anything its harder..playing for hackham or aldinga or kangarilla doesnt mean you are a "div 1" player at all..its means you played in division 1 in a league..thats all :)

i also have reservations of imports taking the spots of juniors who are ready to play their first year of seniors..kenilworth have approximately 12 juniors available for seniors this year..and all of them should taste A grade football this year..and i hope they all do but will they?

Centrals have told our kids in the past to go to the Barossa to be looked at by them, they now seem fine to let them play for their home club when they don't get a gig. Better still, they actually read the papers and notice when they get a mention in the best players.

They definitely have gotten better with that over the last couple of years LM, the BL&G used to be their be-all and end-all before Scott Stevens came in.

Yeah they're the ones. Can't be getting that much $$ surely?!
I have played Div 3 to Div 5 and the depth in teams is the main difference. All teams have got some stars. Higher grades have more good players. These guys will at least offer good A grade depth ..

Ohhh the kids are happy with the club, many still come and watch our A's after A1 Reserves. As a clubman for all these years it hurts when ya see a born and bread Young Demon playing for Henley or PHOS Reserves and you know he's only there cause the Eagles and Westies told him to play there....as I said they still come and watch our A's and attend social functions. The SANFL clubs are happy to take our kids but they never give anything back!

Purely theoretical Ace. Most of the lads live down the hill, so the travel factor just isn't viable.

Although, a number of the lads playing next year would have had some involvement with either of the Hills leagues.

Don't get me wrong D I'm all for a little banter and blog'n just can't believe some of the inflated ego's and abilities that escalate away from the reality of it all.

I've been play'n, coach'n and watch'n for over 20 years and the SAAFL game has gone backwards, many that I see on satdays would be lucky to play B grade footy 10-15 years ago.

Now I just sound like another ol'coger! ;)[/quote]

Must say I disagree with the comment that the standard was better a decade ago, if anything i'd say the standard has improved with the game changing in to a running game. Kenilworth played in the 1999 divvy 6 grand final with a side of which nobody hardly trained and the b's were flogged week in/week out (AND I MEAN REALLY FLOGGED). Plain and simple if it happened today we would not have made the 5!! The first 10 players were as good as anyone in division 5/6 and then it dropped away after the 14/15th player.

Between 1995-2001 you saw alot of majorly 1 sided games in the SAAFL (Check the highest scores listing), with SAFA going under, northern leagues entering the league and the untroduction of the biggest joke of a system (Premier and Amateur) alot of sides were lets say div 4 standard but playing in div 6 (Eastern Park,Central United,Campbelltown Magill,Para Hills and the list goes on). However the bottom 5 sids in these lower divisions were rubbish and got belted. It took 5 or so years for it to really sort itself out and get each club in the true division they belong in. If you did a list of the best standard sides in the SAAFL fom 1-70 the sides now would wipe the floor with sides from back then , just like the argument my Dad brings up that the 1960's Sturt side would wipe the floor of todays AFL sides. Please.......... the evolution of the human being tells us that people now are stronger, quicker and bigger than they were even 10 years ago. That trend flows down from from AFL all the way to division 6/7.
When I first started as a 15 year old in seniors in 1999 I beleive the standard now is far greater.

some of them definitely would have - eg peter mccarthy when he first started after about 150 odd div 1/sanfl games and was just 30.

goodwood had some handy youngsters in that grade last year - maybe they wouldn't stand out but they'd be useful contributors.

morell..any reason a former division 2 coach with SANFL and AFL experience was beaten for the job by a SAAFL C grade coach?

i would have thought getting someone like that on board would be a master stroke..overqualified perhaps?
