As a neutral observer - one guy was a tad confusing, the younger bloke not too bad.

But being an ex-umpire (and standing with another umpire at Fitzroy), I would always qualify any comment with "what you see on the sidelines, is very different from what the umpires see from 10 - 20 metres away"

When I was watching, there was only a couple of goals in it, and I dont reckon the umps made that much difference, mainly because Fitzroy just had to get it within their 50m and they usually scored, whereas GG were struggling to find a focal point. They need that big mofo back asap (Not next week, hopefully)

I have heard about a few things late in the game, but I wasn't there. That's when it gets interesting with the umpiring, and whether they are strong enough to assert some control

So the older guy was hopeless?! Poor bloke..

I played for AL on the weekend. There was quite a strong breeze which Greenies kicked with in the first, but we kicked 4 into it and only trailed by a goal at quarter time. we kicked a few with it in the second to be up by a couple at half time. They drew level at the last change, then we kicked away by a couple in the last.
It was tough kicking goals into the wind, so I think our first quarter set us up well.
Teams were pretty evenly matched, centre breaks would've been pretty level. Thought our backline did an awesome job, stopping their big blokes and rebounded well.
Very happy to win Rd. 1 away from home!!

Had a couple of good on-ballers.
One guy with a shoulder guard, and another guy No. 2 i think.
Also had a good CHF, wore a helmet.
Took a few marks, they went thru him a lot, but our CHB did a great job keeping him away from goals.
Had a guy in Bgrade who DOMINATED!!
kicked 7, including some bombs from 50++

Would be surprised if he was getting paid if he was injurred, but can not confirm or deny. Mind you i have seen at another club a player got paid a decreased payment in his 2nd or 3rd year at the club on the basis that it is similar to a salary, so he got paid regardless of injuries, so it does happen but not sure of here.
