Potters would've easily in his day...he played A grade footy for Happy Valley when they were top of the pops.

Daish maybe lower end of D3 perhaps D4 - would depend on the mixture of the squad.

Orts in his day was winning A grade awards for Port Noarlunga - and they're no mugs.

From our experience in purely trial games the top teams in the SFL are a fair bit below good teams standard in Div 3 and far below Div 2.

Was a great D7 side.

 Bloke whose played all his career in D7, have you even seen D2 or 3? That's a pretty outlandish comment to be making, how do you even justify that?
None of those guys have played all their careers in D7. In fact they've played much higher for most of their careers.

Mazey - just kicked 40 goals for Happy Valley and got named in the best 10 times - would be an instant pick in any D2 or D3 side
Potuszynski - played a season for Happy Valley and kicked 16 goals in 14 games. In 2012 would've been first 21 in D2 or D3 easily.
Harrison - played a couple of seasons at Christies Beach and I think finished very high in their B and F. D2 or D3 quality player in 2012, easily.
Daish - played for Aldinga, Hackham and OSB over the journey. Would be a D3 pick pretty easily.
Ortmann - played A Grade for Port Noarlunga for many years - might've been a bit old in 2012 for D2 but would've slotted into D3.

Typical attitude about the lower grades though, it's not the top end of teams that have a lack of ability, most D6 and D7 sides would have 5 or 6 that could play much higher. It's after those where the depth plummets and the overall standard drops.

Mazey played reserves at Sth Adelaide, Harrison finished top 4 SFL 2014 and played for Ironbank this year and Potuz played A grade finals at Happy Valley and Orts at age 30 came to play with some mates at the den after a distinguished A grade career at Port Noarlunga.

I reckon the very top teams from the SFL would be competitive in D2. Maybe lower mid table perhaps. Would be playing finals in D3.

But you're right Jo, the overall standard is probably lower D3-ish obviously depending on that years strength of each comp.

Besides the point. I've seen and watched the aforementioned players and they would get a game at their best. No doubt in my mind.

People forget that Ben Weekley (our captain) played Div 1 two years ago FFS. People forget that Liam Davis (Norwood's spearhead) played for Houghton!

So did these guys stick around the next season or leave?

Or are you saying now that a D6 side is as good as a D2 side? ;) :P

Also, for what it's worth morell is right in the sense there are players in Div 7 capable of playing in the higher/highest grades. If Josh Davis was still out at PNU he definitely would have played (if not the whole season at least some games) in a finals bound Div 1 side.

Nick Read from St Pauls played Div 1 in 2013 and is only 22/23. Of course he's still up to that standard.

Out of the 2012 side I think Daish broke his ankle from memory. Orts stopped playing. Harro was appointed coach and I think struggled with the workload. Potters played. Mazey played but broke his wrist i think.

2013 was an unmitigated disaster for a myriad of reasons ... but at round 1 it was the strongest squad I've seen at Mitchell Park, the fact we finished second to bottom was testament to the strength of D6 that year.

And currently, Josh Davis played in the D3 PNU premiership, Brayzy played for Gaza, and Shaun Grimley is a life member of Chuck Wagon.

I know there are plenty of players running around lower divs who could play higher, I was just surprised that half a dozen from a D7 side were rattled off and that you believed they would 'comfortably' slot into a D2 or D3 side.

I wasn't questioning that they could play higher, was surprised over the comfortably part - it's a massive jump.

That '12 MPFC side was absolutely dominant. We smashed sides quite routinely by 30 goals. It wasn't your standard D7 team.

Also keep in mind that in that '12 side were some players that would struggle to get a game for a D4R side. Probably half a dozen of them too.

And therein lies the difference between the grades.

Depth!

Just find a club you like playing footy at, that's all that matters.
