That is big coin for K Cobb. Must be catching plenty of crays down at Robe this season....

$20k you say....more than most league players get...

Speaking of coin- I here Tony Roach is back coaching at Uni's 07- If inflation is anything to go by his pay packet must be hefty if it is in line with his mid 90's wage

have the saafl ever posted on their website the clearances in and out, or would it be too big? I see that the GSFL
do it on their website and a few other leagues do too.

The SAAFL admin is a rabble; this would be way beyond their ability... Would not be super demanding but certainly too bigger ask for the half-trackers at SAAFL

It's not about being a hero Mark, it is an observation that since my involvment in the league began in 2005, I have found the SAAFL to be uncooperative and at best difficult to deal with. Team-mates have described the SAAFL hq as "amateur in every way" You seem to take my comment personally, if you are involved maybe spend more time on running and improving the league and less time on safootycentral.com's footy forum.... And yes I'm bracing myself for your disgruntled, angry and above all predictable reply!!!

As for the soccer being worse we are not a whole heap better than having fixtures out a week before the start

mark, mark, mark- too defensive you are all about everyone getting off their bum and doing things at club and now league level!! People put themselves in these positions by choice and should know responsibilities. The amateur league have made blews in the past, and do tend to not go the extra yard. Basic stuff ups on finals grounds. The extension of the finals by a week last year was poor and gave a week off to teams finishing fifth!!! The tribunal is laughable and some of the decisions on player qualifications defy belief. The SAAFL website is a good basic site but surely could be updated more often and be greater use than just a scoreboard facility. True that these jobs are difficult but if basic things cannot be consistent GET OUT!

How do you know that finn? You're not just indoctrinated with the Uni don't pay anyone belief are you? Interestingly, the people who defend that view the most vigourously are C,D and E graders. We already know that they don't get paid. My missus' step dad tells me the same, and he hasn't played for 30 years. How the hell would he know?

I can just imagine a hypnotist out the front of Uni sides during preseason, "We do not pay anyone. We do not pay anyone".

andy, i've been there long enough and been involved enough to know what the club pays its coaches. I also said that he wasn't earning anything near $20k, not that he wasn't being paid - there's a vast difference between the two statements.

in the 20 years i've been involved there i'm yet to meet an agrader who has been directly paid, but i do realise that the networks players develop can be very beneficial later in life. surely, however these networks are developed at all clubs (at the district clubs i was involved in they were) and utilised even in things such as tradework.

i believe that its just easier and better for people to be quiet about what people receive and clubs pay unless some hard and fast evidence can be produced. its up to the clubs now in the semi-professional saafl to decide how to reward or attract their players while staying within the salary cap.

its good to see that some tired old stereotypes still exist :)

Ha ha, not directly paid, I'll accept that. It goes through an envelope first. I've heard both sets of stories, but as I said, a lot of the people who say uni don't pay wouldn't have a clue. I daresay our C grade coach from last year who has been around the club his whole life wouldn't have a clue what money was being paid, only 3 or 4 people would.

The fact remains that A grade players at Uni have admitted being paid. I'll believe them rather than the masses who wouldn't know.

I actually logged on to advise finn to leave the argument alone but you've inspired me to come in on the scene. Andy, what facts are there registerd to suggest any player has been payed to play at Uni through an envelope or otherwise. Unless you're going to say who those players are you're ridiculous claims just go into the recycle bin. I like finn have been involved at the Blacks for nearly 20 years as an A grade premiership player, an active committee member and if you can produce the names of those who claim to have been paid I will come on this forum with my identity exposed and debate the merits of those claims and if you can't then shut the *&%$ up, you're only promoting your red neck ignorance.

Mate, we all make decsions based on the information available to us. I can't help what I've heard, and can only judge the credibility of each piece of information I have to decide on my opinion. Denials on here, while passionate don't rank highly on my scale of credibility. Of course you were going to say what you did, and of course I was never going to name people as it would be unfair to bring them unwittingly into this, and would also put them in a precarious position.

I can hardly see how a claim that a div 1 team pays players is ridiculous. While I accept that cash may not be handed over at the end of a game, I include job offers, increased salaries and fees being paid as payment.

As I said before, I am only going off what I have been told. I may be incorrect and as a committee member I'm sure you would know what is going on. However, you can't abuse someone for posting a view which is entirely possible. Maybe your ship is a tad leaky.
