5/5 to finish off
The final home and away match for the Saints would see them pitted against Wooden Spooner Ovingham. The Ovingham Cats have had a controversial season, and although had to forfeit it's B grade on Saturday, managed to scrape up an A side for it's final match. Aaron Cooke IS the OFC, and the now playing coach was so far everywhere, he even managed to Boundary Umpire for a quater, Goal Umpire for another one, run water, plus he washed the jumpers after the match. Hopefully with more effort like this from others at Ovingham it will survive beyond this season. It was a forgettable first half as both sides struggled with the tricky conditions. Ivan Novosel and a couple of others were rested for the Saints, while it welcomed back Mark Chilvers from injury. With a 6 goal lead at the long break, the Saints went on to record a 92 point win. Travis Smits was dominant for the Saints kicking 5 goals, while midfielders Derek O'Gorman and Mark Ezzy had a heap of it, and defenders Daniel Barbulovic and Scott Mumford were solid. For the Cats, Cooke worked his 'vertically challenged' frame to every stoppage while his partner in crime Roger Jurina gathered numerous possesions. Coach Riddler would be happy to get through the game 'injury-free' and will give all his focus this week to Saturday's Elimination Final against the Flinders University Crabs. Ovingham will look to season 2009 as a learning point, and would hope to pick up some quality people to work off and on the ground for next year.
