Could SAAFL do north & south divs from div 4 down. So have something like
Div 1
Div 2
Div 3
Div 3 Sth
Div 3 Nth
Div 4 Sth
Div 4 Nth
Just a thought.

and no teams came into the comp.

Hopefully we can get a couple of wins out of the last 3 games and we won't have to worry about it.

Exactly!! Its like Telstra and Foxtel offering good deals to new customers and giving SFA to their existing ones

Sure, it's going to suck to be relegated after all the hard work Charlie and Stevo put in over the years, hell, even poor Bob would be pulling his hair out if he had any trying to get these blokes playing some decent footy - but you gotta take the hand you're dealt.

*disclaimer* - i'm pretty sure i dont' speak for the rest of the club here.

Well Lisa if I was still coaching Hope Valley I would be knocking on the HVFC committee and Saafl doors and demanding we stay in Div 4. I think it's very ordinary that new clubs can apply to affiliate and jump over the top of loyal clubs.Hope valley wouldn't be relegated if para hills played in 2016.Let them start in Div6 where ttg and modbury did and look where they are now. They should do the hard yards like we did at hope valley to climb the grades not be given a gold pass

If you stick Brighton in D6 you're handing them about 3 gold passes in the way of easy premierships.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't...

Agree with TT. Brighton would still have to go and win and earn their spot in Div3. Not necessarily a gold pass to 3 flags because anything can happen over a 3 year period, even in 1 year. Ask Rosewater.

Ahh no.

You Northerners need to understand where Brighton are at. They're a D2 club, maybe even D1 with some snazzy recruits.

They would completely and utterly annihilate D6, smash D5 the year after and dominate D4 after that.

It would make a complete and utter mockery of the competition.

D3 is about right though, should earn their way into D2 and maybe D1.

Indeed, if Brighton were to enter in D6/7 we'd have 3-4 years of corrupted competitions rather than one.

Correct.

And they're not Edwardstown or Morphy Parks - which people keep comparing them too. No disrespect to Towns or the Twisties, they're good footy clubs with good people.

But Brighton are on another level. If not elite they're pretty damn close.

Huge get for the SAAFL if it goes ahead.

My crystal ball reckons they would finish about 2nd in Div 1, let's put whoever's sitting 2nd on the ladder in Div 1 down to Div 2 to accommodate them

But that wouldn't be fair, right?

Think it is going to be a huge ask for Brighton to D3 to D1 in consecutive years. The style of football is different and they won't be playing super inferior opposition every 2nd week. They might get to D2 quickly but then might find themselves stuck for a couple of years. It will however please the local SANFL clubs Glenelg and South Adelaide who sometime send their young players with no local club there. Increased competition and then they will be able to gauge where their players are at.

So let me get this straight. 2013 Brahma Lodge didn't go up to Div 3, 2014 Salisbury West didn't go up to Div 3, 2015 Salisbury didn't go up to Div 3. Now there's an outcry because a team does want to enter Div 3.

I would have thought you'd push down 8th first?

I also suspect the League's process is a bit more scientific than your crystal ball.

If hypothetically Norwood had had enough of the SANFL and wanted to play in the C9AFL i'd suggest putting them in A1 to the detriment of whoever was sitting 8th would be perfectly reasonable?

Div 3 is the right call imo. I know Hope Valley are dirty and I canunderstand to a degree. But as I mentioned previously if you win 3 games of footy for the year.....you probably should go down a grade. Even 4 games see's you going down 90% of the time. I know the argument would be that if PH came in........ far more times than not the premier from the div below will come up and win at least 6 games, PH example is an extreme one. Without getting emotions involved, I think if Valleys win at least 2 of their last 3 they will deserve to stay up, but lose 2 or all 3 then probably should go down.

I don't think anything sums up the argument as well as the above post.. Spot on Watchdog. no doubt over the summer break a div 4 or 3 team will lose a ton of players and be more than happy to remain or drop a grade.. we see it every year, a million hypotheticals get bandied about but more often than not the league gets it right.

I'm not sure that these teams not going up prevented other clubs from being promoted or forced clubs to be relegated though did it?

I agree with Morrell

Just look at Brighton;s u18's this year, they have conceeded 245 points in 11 games, 22 points average! And only the strong SFL clubs have 18's, there is no Hackham, Lonsdale, Marion, MVPFC.

They are a strong club and are only going to get stronger, with a strong Glenelg connection also. Would not surprise me at all for them win the Div 3 flag easily in 2017. and be very competitive in D2

S Demon, I understand your frustrations, but don't the rules and regulations say you should go down?

37 PROMOTION AND RELEGATION
37.1 Subject to Clauses 37.4 and 37.5 herein the Member Clubs occupying the lowest two positions on the premiership table in the Divisions with a reserve Division (except the lowest Division of The League and the lowest Division of The League with a reserve Division) at the end of the minor round of matches in each Division, not being a reserve Division, shall be relegated to the Division below their current Division in the following season.

It does not say 9th and 10th.
Given you are in a 9 team comp, sitting 8th earns you relegation.
