Mind you that Sunraysia comp is full of some of the toughest and maddest blokes you will ever see in footy. Rick Modra would have been at home!

Tony played 1 pre-season game, going by wikipedia - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Modra

It says the reason for not staying being due to being contracted to West Adelaide, but Im fairly sure there were other "off field issues" as well.

A lot of the blokes Reddy are recruiting are returning players also. Many left after their B2B flags. It's a merry go round up there with top teams.

ah ok, returning players get 50% off their points I think...not sure

Shit there you go!

You're a loose cannon if you get turfed out of Mildura. Place is full of blokes who are the best people you will ever meet 98% of the time, then when they flip their lid the 2% of the time you will run for your life! Tough as they come.

Haven't heard to much on this front
Are they still trying to find that needle in the haystack?
Or are they going to make a big statement soon ?
I don't think so. Another waste of time and effort.

That's why our whole footy set up is F******!!

SANFL clubs can't pay close to that, mediocre amateur players get payed more than a SANFL player to go country, less training, less commitment etc.

Salary caps should be brought in and enforced where the ammo/country clubs have restrictions more severe than state league

Jim, if he's showing the same commitment to Wallaroo as a AFL player then perhaps he'd be worth it, otherwise no bloody chance

Scott Galbraith has also gone to YP. Southern Eagles for $1100.

Or better yet, why dont the AFL fund the state comps so they have a decent salary cap level, it should be at least double what it is now to allow the SANFL to pay more.

I always thought Rick or Kym had spent a playing stint in Sunraysia. Must be wrong.
The Modras were a Loxton-based family, then the three played together at Renmark (from memory, drawn grand final then they won the replay).
Rick may have played with Cadell in the Mid Murray for a while.

And, yes, I love my annual fill of Sunraysia footy at Easter time. Great footy.

He definitely played at Cadell whilst he was a guest there

Played against Rick in the Mid Murray League. I Think he played for Cadell a couple of times.
Saw him come in at round 9 one season and kick 96 goals in the last 9 games. Pretty well single handedly took them from bottom to a finals berth. Monster of a man.

SANFL Clubs need to be allowed to pay more. You start restricting country footy/saafl & you start losing more talent to vic leagues where the teams on the bottom end of the ladder can spend well over $100k & that's not even breaking rules. Not only are SANFL players heading to Vic but also local footy talent & it then creates this cycle of saafl/country/sanfl battling off to cover the gaps left from top end players heading over the border.

Coming down on saafl/country footy won't help the sanfl a great deal, will only hurt local footy. We can't do anything about what goes on over the border, sanfl club just need to be allowed to spend more.

I could be way off with this but that just my opinion haha

I tend to suspect the answer is the SANFL re-assessing it's spot in the footy landscape.

One question, how long is the SANFL Reserves comp for this world? Take the money saved from that, apply it to the senior salary cap/salaries would seem to be a pretty good first step to me.
