Seeing this is the "DIV 3" thread and not the Portland comedy hour, how about some of your HONEST opinions on how the finals will pan out.

i personally think its a 3 horse race, spoc would have to go in favourites with para hills and smosh the others fighting it out, might sound a bit harsh but from what i have seen of walkies this year didnt overly impress me, IMO para hills are the real danger for spoc though, there forward line is so potent with hanson frick and flyn and even solly. just need to get it in to these blokes quickly and they will do the rest.

From my point of view -

SPOC - team to beat, i know not a lot seperated the top 4 as far as games won but something would have to go very wrong for them not to win it. I reckon they have been cruising most of the year. Very even all over the ground, and some absolute guns in their line-up.
Walkies - everyone keeps telling me they are the real deal, but i have seen otherwise both times we played them. Suspect to physical pressure on small grounds (ie. Walkerville and Port Reserve). I dont think they will be suited this week by playing at home, against SMOSH's bigger bodied midfield. On a big ground, will be dangerous though.
SMOSH - have struggled at times to get their best side on the park with injuries, but continued to win games. At full strength, not far behind SPOC. Lose this week though, and under extreme pressure, as there are pretty high expectations. My pick to play SPOC in GF.
Para Hills - As already mentioned, gun forward line that will demolish backlines if enough ball gets to them. Good onball brigade but weak in the ruck, and slightly suspect down back. On their day will beat anyone, and could easily sneak into a GF. I reckon they will get to the prelim.
Iggies - making up numbers, have a couple of players who are as good as anyone in D3 but too much expected of them each week, especially with Tyson gone. Lucky to get in the finals, and will be on Mad Monday this time next week.

not a bad assessment there, iggies knocked off my favourite team para hills 2 weeks back at 'HQ shaggers park' then lost to portland on the weekend, think tyson took a sh!t load of grabs against them too, from about 3 and 4 deep at times apprently - was his injury a reason for there loss on weekend do you think?

wouldnt mind seeing your team of the year either felch, being the biggest big poster on here, just about.

Injury to Tyson definately hurt them, not sure if they would have won with him though. We probably played as good a quarter in the 3rd as we had all year.

Hmmm, i might have a crack at a team of the year when i have a bit of time.

News to me about the Portland/Iggies C grade - i know we struggled to field a side, quite a few B graders headed down there after the their game to help out. Good effort on a warm day. Were there some other issues ?

Not sure if our guys would have minded to be honest, they probably would have preferred to be on the hill at Portland having a few quiet ones...

Something for the Portland and Mitcham posters. D4 sees the return of promoted clubs quite quickly, something your clubs have managed to avoid. What do you see as the major differences between D4 and D3 ? (I know, something semi-serious at this time of the year, but curious on this).

To be honest, the step up isnt massive - other than the top 3-4 sides.

No disrespect to Salisbury or Woody South, but the sides they put on the park in the latter part of the year against us would not have beaten any of the top 5-6 in D4 last year, and probably this year. We are a slightly better side than last year, but not much though. And i think Mitcham are maybe a 2-3 goal better side than last year too. I think both of us managed to keep our teams together, and both are pretty young and have natural improvement in them.

Not playing A's and only 4 B grade games for the year it is hard to say.
From what I have seen the quality of football is better (that was expected).
teams seem to have more quality players that can break open games and the depths of clubs is alot stronger. Eg, SPOC, SMOSH and Walkervilles B grade sides would give half of the div 4 A grade sides a good run if not beat them IMO.
Any side going up a div, there first task should be to avoid relegation then push for finals.
We have done that so next year we build on the base and push for finals, thats what i think anyways.

Woody south's slide in div 3 is a possibility of a few reasons. The 2nd half of the season saw the loss of a few players due to injuries, not just 1 week games but 4 or 5 weeks to some key players. Its hard to replace a key player in the A grade for a player in the B grade. Not having one of the best defenders in the div "J. Curtis" a former state player play week in and week out due to work. Also not having J. Cattermole play basically the whole season due to a back injury didnt help either. His leadership and use off the ball is outstanding and his presents lifts the team. The whole club suffered as they could never play a settled side.
The last 2 games off the season saw the B's defeat an undefeated walkerville, the A's smashed by walkerville. The last minor round against Parra Hills saw the B's loose 7 players from the said that defeated walkerville and have to promote a few from the c grade. The whole season we had u18s players playing A grade footy, in my opinion they shouldnt have.
The problem is we, yes i play for them but lack a quality forward. You cant win games off footy and be dominant when your leading goal kicker wins your award with a mere 20odd goals. Look at every other side in the comp, their forwards have 40 plus. It reflects right the way down through the club. The U18s are struggling to field a side, they had 10 injuries after 9 rounds. 4 or 5 with broken legs. To my knowledge the U16s n U11 are looking like playing finals. Now what does that say.....
Div 4 next season will be interesting. It may see where the club is really at.
