Ive watched a few iggies games. I think on their day they can match it with anyone.

I think theyve done well, considering no Rolfe (most of the year) and Calabrese. Also lost a few to overseas (Romeo, Boyd). Also blooded 5 or 6 18yr olds from school.

Should be a good game against walkies

agree with the right up. in B grade we sucked and did not deserve to win. a few lads out but no excuses better side won on the day. hats off to mitcham and good luck.

in the A grade it was one of the best games of saafl footy i have seen and what a final is all about. Good crowd support for both sides and both sides had there chances. only down point was the Walkerville player getting red carded for spitting. well done to the umpire you cant have players spitting on other players. it was feral and i hope the saafl deal with it. there is no pace on a footy field for such filth.

Let's not crucify the guy too early. As a spectator, it was hard to tell what was going on. Apparently he only spat on his boot so he probably didn't intend on actually spitting on him. Give him the benefit of the doubt till proven otherwise. If it was unintentional, a red card for virtually the whole game is a pretty reasonable punishment.

HI HO, how has Adam Alessandrini and Silvestri performed this year? Silva was very good footballer underage at Norwood and Alessandrini is a very good tennis player.

Silvestri's best is behind him but holds his spot in the A-grade. Alessandrini gets better with age. Should take out iggs best and fairest.

Silvestri used to be a super quick forward flanker but I think he has been eating too much of his mum's pasta of late- he's lost his speed and isn't as damaging as he once was.

Has Alessandrini played a whole season though? I know he plays tennis late into April. Is he the best amateur sportsmen in South Australia?

Hi Ho- having seen a bit of Igs this year, I would say that Alessandrini is a better chance of winning the B grade B & F than the A grade. From memory he didnt get a run in the A grade until mid season.

I know Igs have been hoping for a good bunch of young kids to come through and take over the reins at the club from the likes of the Alessandrini brothers, White, etc. They have been great stalwarts of the club but you cant rely on a bunch of geriatrics to bring you the success the club is craving.

Orts have you heard how Calabrese has been travelling. I noticed a Calabrese running around with Igs this year - any relation? It is fair to say that Calabrese although very good in his prime would probably be the 3rd maybe even 4th rate ruckmen at OIFC if he was to come back from o/s and play. You would think the likes of Schar, Osborne and Koronis are ahead of him.

try Andrew Frick 2nd in bradman medal and second in div 3 goal kicking, chadd sayers, 2nd, 2nd and 3rd last 3 years bradman medal and runs around in div 2 footy for flinders, pat connelly, state 2nd eleven wicket keeper and top 4 vote getter at old iggies this year, tim davey also second eleven wicket keeper and decent div 1 footballer and led to believe nearly a scratch golfer, john corbett div 1 at rocs and a scratch pennett golfer was trying to turn pro earlier in career and has also played a grade district cricket thats to just name a few off the bat, im sure there are plenty more as well, really could be another whole topic.

Threestar- big Breezer is old news these days although I was hoping he would come back for a couple of games when his old mate Rolfe returned late in the season. Watch out for the Calabrese in Saints' first 18 though. A cousin of the the ex Norwood/Igs Calabrese. Have heard he is a fantastic athelete- a great middle distance runner. Obviously doesn't take after his cousin.

I think Breezer's younger brother played a bit of A grade for Igs as well this season. Big boots to fill for the young fella...

Anyway, onto more important matters, what are everyone's thoughts on this week's games?

I'm backing SMOSH over SPOC. Just have a feeling that a couple of their hard nuts in the middle are proven finals performers and might get them over the line. And I'd just love SPOC to go out in straight sets...

Get on it, Alessandrini has won OIFC leading goalkicker a recording 6 times, he has also won 8 pennant tennis championships. He was asked this year by Tennis SA to rejoin the satelite tour, if it wasn't for his back he would be on the pro tour. Plus also this year he will win OIFC A grade champion (1st time)

I agree Vintage Red, but SMOSH are capable of giving them a huge scare.

What happened to you blokes ? Rated you guys very highly, can you pin point any reason for the drop off ?

I know this thread has turned into an Iggies love-fest since they won a final ;) , but i just cant fathom how they beat you blokes...twice in 3 weeks !!!

Not sure to be exact, to turn a 10 goal deficeit around in three weeks wasnt going to be easy. Were in a good spot at quarter time but had 2 shocking quarters. Got within 10 points late in the last twice from 5 or 6 down, but couldnt roll them. They just seemed to be switched on, we werent desperate enough or hard working enough.
Wasnt far out with my medal predictions, my picks came 2nd & 3rd, a bit surprised with the winner, thought that Cantwell was their best chance. Kilsby goes around just doing his job, no frills but gets it done.
A bit bemusing though, Nathan Flynn kicks 8.8 from CHF in a winning team against your blokes & takes 22 marks and can only pull 1 vote.
We do give the job to the umpires though, isnt that another story.
