some inside info there scottroo or what mate?

Heard a rumour over the weekend that Flinders University (the school) is looking at sponsoring the footy team a whopping 20K a year. Apparently the school thinks it would be in there best interest if the footy team they are associated with was playing in the higher grades. Not sure how true all of this is but if it is true I can see why Scottroo is making such bold predictions. I guess we will wait and see

In the paper the other day there was an article that money had been allocated to build new Changerooms used by the Football and other FU clubs so this is where this may have originated.
I know all FU sports clubs lost funding from the uni a few years ago when Compulsory student unionism was abolished. There is talk that this may be bought back in a reduced form tho but this would be a year or two away???
I dont think the Uni would really care about what grade one of over its 30 sporting clubs plays in?

you guys have been getting new change rooms for the last 5 years? or so iv been told you sure it will happen this time round.

If what i'm hearing is true that Angle Vale could be losing a heap of players then they could be one who is struggling.

Dont know about us, we are pretty happy in the C grade comps but you never know..... this was told to me on a totally unrelated convo to Modbury info.....

I also wasnt told "who" as the convo was cut short, but i think 1 team believes they will struggle for numbers and 1 team for another reason(of which i am unsure).

Sorry i cant be much more help i just thought i would post this and see if anyone had any further info re what i heard!

I would personally like to see Modbury have a crack at Div 7, i dont think we have done this before!

FS - From our perspective at SHOCs I think it has been beneficial for the development of the younger players, as they are exposed to playing against better players and stronger bodies than they might do in the C division. So the players that stepped upto to B grade were better prepared. It also is benefical in that your C & D grade play at the same ground every week, unlike the C Division. The downside is that you are playing against A grade sides which in some means have a lot more resources than a C or D grade side ould have. So a lot more is expected off the field than you would expect in the C divisions.

Modbury had Div 4 & Div 8 back in late 80 earily 90s.
They had good run with a few Flags and pushed the A Grade and Bs into Higher Divisions.
Gullys also played in these Div around the same time.
So why not go that way again with Div 2 and Div7 next year It may help you guys get back into Div 1.

From what I saw of the first Grand Final, I reckon both TTG and Modbury C grades would be around the mark in Div 7

Yes of course they would be.
If Flinders uni can come from C5 and play finals second year in Div 7 comp.
Golden Grove could push C4 &C5 teams in Div 7 and push for finals.
You guys coming from C1 maybe even to strong for Div7.

from an outsiders view, i think golden grove would fit into div 7 very well. they plenty of jnrs coming in each year. i think that jnrs (and other players) that miss out on Bs can get put off a little about playing Cs for any club. having div 7 and 7R you get both teams playing on the same ground and is prob get greater motivation that playing in the C comp. only thing for GG is that being div 4 they might lack a bit of depth compared to the div 1 clubs

Henely and SHOC C grades from Div1 in Div 7.
Henley now gone we think and SHOC not that strong.
Did hear their a few clubs wanting in 2010 so C&D play at the same ground.
Flinders Park, Modbury, TTG, Maybe Broadview and Golden Grove,(Wingfield would be pushing for two teams again)
May they (SAAFL) need to open Div 8 comp again or more teams in Div 6 and 7 in 2010

SHOCs b-grade were the premiers in D1R yet their c-grade finished sixth in Div7. I think you need to look at each club separately to determine if they will be competitive.
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.

those clubs would be coming up from the c grade divisions making that classification redundant - if it happened. i'd guess that the c grade divisions would go back to the relegation/promotion system then.

the two team c/d grade sides would make for an interesting grade but would rip a hole into the lower a grade division 7 with shoc, athelstone, henley, adelaide uni all leaving and only potentially (according to safooty rumour) wingfield coming in. the potential grade would revisit the div 8 of several years ago but now would have ttg, modbury, adelaide uni, golden grove, mitcham, shoc, athelstone, broadview as the minimum (i'm sure i've forgotten one or two). i'd be for leaving as is with clubs able to push their c grade into div 7 - with regards to the fixturing of matches so that c and d grade play at the same ground - mostly the saafl programs the matches so that home games are played together - surely this is the most crucial part of it?

regards the level of c1 and div 7 - having coached a lot in c1 and watched quite a bit of div 7 when byes and finals allow, the upper echelon of c1 sides would be very competitive in div 7 as some of the past premiership sides and finalists have had an enormous amount of talent floating around.
modbury and ttg both had large amounts of fitness and structure in their c grade this year - this often helps overcome any 'supposed' deficiency of talent.

Interesting how we have our name bandied around as Div 7 candidates along with Div 1 and 2 teams seeing our highest team is only in Division 4....
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.
