div 7 is half a c-grade comp as well

why should we confine ourselves to "oh know, we only have 7 divs in our comp and we refuse to expand"

the fact div 8 exists shows that the SAAFL is "growing" and "getting better". it too must have relegation and promotion. do we not want a div 9 in the future???

it was only yesterday that there was div 8s and div 9s and no one gave a toss then

Blackfriars started in Div 7 and did pretty well in their first year.

UniSa has a student population of around 37,000. With the right people and a bit of luck, I think they COULD do well. I can see why the mozzies are a bit negative on the whole idea.

Who's negative about them? I've seen some of the players they've got and they'd want to recruit unbelievably between now and Round 1 to be anything like Blackfriars in their first year. I've seen a fair bit of Div 7 the last few years so just stating my opinion mate. I'd even back your mob to give em a touch up.

Div 7 has come too far to go backwards. I'm with you Riddler, they will get DEEEEEEstroyed. Why on earth would you go down the path of bringing in a brand new club with a 'C' division team to to make up the numbers. Good God, Broadies and Smosh's C grade's are around the TTG mark. What an absolute joke. Vote with your fingers people.

Um, no they're not. The Broadview div 8 team from last year was their weakest side in the previous 3-5 years (even though it won the flag) and stronger sides from them weren't going close to TTG. SMOSH and Broadview are both well drilled but would struggle.

Know that it is half a and half c grade but shouldn't we be aiming for it to wholly a grade sooner rather than later.
My information is that UniSA are aiming for two sides in 2014 - and they've got a potentially very strong catchment area if utilised well.

The SAAFL have had div 8 and div 9 in years past - the same questions have always been there - how to merge smaller a grade clubs with larger c grade clubs. I'd personally like the League to have some fairly hard and fast rules about this as in the past it's been ad hoc responses to situations that have caused problems eg - if you can organise two teams you go into the highest grade possible, if you only have there's a time limit before two sides must be entered - in the interim you play in the highest c grade division or if there's space in the lowest a grade division you play there and either double up with another side or the other sides get a bye. (many older players in b grades welcome the occasional game off - and perhaps the calls could be adjusted to account for the byes as well).

Questions on which side goes where could be organised on the newer team goes lower grade or on results between them prior to the season.

And just like div 8 last year copped some flak and faced some problems, let's give the new system a go (if plausible) and then review it in an ongoing manner.

What a load of crap Finn!!!!.

That was our best side in the last 3-5 years put together for the purpose of winning the flag that we couldn't do in the previous few years. Several ex A grade players and new recruits who put in the effort and we will match with the best in D7 in 2013.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

No disrespect intended there FE, but I personally didn't think Broadview's 2012 C grade was as good as its 2011 version. Yes, it had some very handy players and was drilled but I don't believe it was as evenly talented. If you do go to Div 7, I'd sooner that it wasn't in place of an a grade club and good luck to you.
I have no problems with clubs and their associated lower grades wanting to play higher but, as I've stated before, believe that div 7 should first and foremost be an a grade competition.

I understand the concept that the league wants Div 7 to be A grade clubs, but Adel Uni are in Div 6 ( a C grade team ) TTG have been placed in Div 6 ( a C grade team ) and Henley, Flinders Pk, Modbury and Shoc are all in Div 7 ( all C grade teams ) so that would mean finding 6 new clubs for that to be reality. The simple solution is to start UniSA in Div 8 and Ovingham as their Div 8 res team and give both clubs the chance to build their 2nd team. You build a solid house from the foundations not start 2 metres up. :)

The biggest issue for Modbury D7 last year was when the A's and B's copped injuries our best C Grade players went up to cover. This included the young players that showed a bit. We were competitive until that happened and then struggled to field a real D7 team. Other clubs then gave us a pounding. The issue is what is best for the club is the first priority and that at times leaves the competition compromised. Can you really see it as a major issue though when Henley, TTG, Flinders Pk had such good seasons in D7?

Rumour has it Ingle Farm started pre-season last night and not very positive results.. No new recruits, only 15 blokes turned up and of those 15 half a dozen turned up in some very very poor shape  .. unless you call round a good shape :P

Session lacked any sort of intensity from the players and the effort was very poor..

Long season ahead for the Farmers I think.

The appointment of the C grade coach must have scared the players away.
