Gee this is interesting reading guys. I wasn't aware it was mandatory to have a beer after the game with your opposition. It's always been my view that you go into a club after the game that you have respect for. No respect? you go home. I might add, respect is mutual. Sometimes you just can't do it, not because of presos being early or whatever, but because there is so much venom between your clubs it's just not smart at that time. Lets face it, there is so many kids playing the game today and they nearly all go home for a shower straight after the game anyway. =)) =)) =))

Spot on Yank about the kids these days   I made it a team rule this year that we are to, as a team, go in and have a drink with the opposition. I think that it's been a good tool, from our behalf, to show that we are working hard to regain some respect as a club.

Luckily I read that post in full, considering the post before was about people not having showers, so I initally thought you said that you make everyone as a team have a shower together

Now that'd be team bonding at it's most extreme

Yeah we do it too HBF, we are both searching for the same credibility. We lost our 1st game saturday and still went into Henley's clubooms after, only to see all the Henley people go outside. Memory bank. TTG, Angle Vale and Nth Pines have all been great, so for us please get us out of this Div and up with A grade clubs who obviously all play and mix for the right reasons.

i dont think that would have been a sign of disrespect by the henley boys mate
they are a really respectful club and have shown that over a long period of time
living for along time near the club i used to love going down and watching footy their and must admit that the lads would always drink outside after a game and into the early evening
the ladies, girlfriends and oldies would always stay in which i believe the players showed respect to by taking the normal talk and banter outside
would not be in anyway showing disrespect to lions

It was a great day down as blackfriars saturday and both games were played in good spirits and were hard fought. one thing that worried me was a player from our side in the b grade was pushed into the goal post after kicking a goal and is now sporting a black eye and a very sore face. The pads on the posts were not sufficient and they are that old there is no padding in them , i am not having a whinge i just fear for the safety of all players and i wouldn't want to see any player in the saafl get a broken cheekbone or any eye or face damage from this.
Was a great bunch on blokes in the b grade to play against and the umpiring was spot on. Congrats to all

The football club doesn't receive any money. We rent the premises from the Houghton Oval Committee. They are the ones who finally received the funding (after a decade of applications) and will combine their resources to upgrade their facilities.

I remember going into your clubrooms after our game Yank Man and guys behind the bar shouted us Gully Boys a couple of jugs, which we then drank with a few of your players.
It was a great way to end a tough game of footy.
Wish all clubs acted like that.

It was actually highlighted in the after match presentations what an awesome scene it was to see the Mitchell Park boys come in for a beer after the game and much credit went to u guys with much applause. It was an odd night at the club because the Div 1s were away and the remaining crowd was just in for the short & sharp speeches

All credit to you boys, most would wanna grab car and get the hell out of there but u guys brought back the football days of old, great work

just on this CLG as a club do try our best to get into opposition clubs for a beer afterwards. If we had won by 10 goals then we still would not have gone in for one because we had to race back home. unfortunate but last year when we were on the end of a far bigger hiding all players went inside for a beverage. so apologies to CU as we do try to go in where possible.

from memory I've been into Lockleys Mawson Lakes and Woodville south after away games to have a cheeky one for the road and considering that BOS Trinity and Uni dont have bar facilities i consider that a pretty good strike rate.

Excellent stuff, its a pity the council dont get behind a revamp as some other councils have certainly helped build some ubeaut clubrooms for some other amateur league clubs.

Yes it was marbles and had a great finals like atmosphere. Just thought it a bit odd when we went in to the clubrooms most came out, but will take deeman's advice that it was what some clubs do, no biggy. I must say though that the game was played in great spirit and we will get another chance for a brewsky afterwards.

was always a rule that i went in for a coffee with the lads from the opposition after a game for me and most of the lads would go in for a sherbert before the trip home
must admit that not only was it a sign of respect but always used the opportunity to speak to other coaches about opposition clubs and what they thought
was also a good chance to get the opposition coach to give an outsiders point of view of my club

Sorry to interrupt all the drinking in oppositions club rooms debate but just thought I'd list the round this week. Biggest round so far this year in terms of where clubs will finish?

Lockleys vs Houghton Districts
Colonel Light Gardens vs Mawson Lakes
